This thing can get interesting if Biaggi doubles this weekend. The margin is manageable but he has to win races. He cant be swapping points. If he does double this weekend, this season will start to take on the feel of 2002 when Edwards came from what seemed an impossible points deficit to win the title.

I'm in no way as clued up as you fellas it's more of an hobby watching this to me than anything, but where does this leave Toseland. Disastrous season with aq satellite team points to him even been dropped by them, would that look a likely outcome?

Possibly. Motorcycle racing is all about "what have you done for me lately?" and other unreasonable decision-making intangibles (at least they are unreasonable by my estimation). The BMW Italia bike looks like it wants for nothing in terms of performance. It was slow in the early days of the season, but Badovinni appears to have stabilized his results in the top ten. If Toseland regains his health, and he scores a handful of podiums or possibly a win, he will save his job, imo.

There are other extenuating circumstances as well. The factory BMW team is allegedly a dysfunctional organization right now. They are insistent upon developing in house electronics by using them on race day, but no human being is enthused by the corporate strategy. Tardozzi barely made it through a single season under the BMW plan. After 3 years of achieving next to nothing, Corser's battered body and battered psyche are considering retirement. Haslam is allegedly looking for a way out of his contract as well. If BMW has a rider revolt, Toseland might get a promotion, instead of getting sacked, b/c BMW may not find anyone better.

If not BMW, then perhaps Honda where Toseland won his last WSBK title in 2007. I suspect Castrol will either pull the plug or clean house for the 2012 season.

For real. Let's hope Biaggi and Melandri can both keep Checa behind them. Season needs a bit of spice.

Lex, thats what i suspected at BMW. When the Tardozzi sit got bad, i new Leon was in trouble. BMW hav a bit of Ducati syndrome.

Best rider in Wsbk, Leon, wasting away in .... bike & team.

What's up with Leon?

A chronic lack of power and the bikes innate inability to haul up and turn into corners. The wonderful and normally effusive Olly looked crestfallen today. I agree - Leon should be challenging for the title. As I understand it he left Batta for BMW after the factory backing was withdrawn. If current rumours are to be believed Alstare is a sleeping giant with even higher levels of support than '05 in the pipeline.

Doesn't Max just love Brno? This has always been his strongest circuit IMO. Having said that I don't think there's a rider on earth that dislikes Brno....although I'm sure Loris Capirossi wasn't too fond of it in spite of the fact that it's been kind to him in the past.

Its looking very scary for James IMO. After him flying home this wk-end again because his wrist cant take it!

Its begining to look like this injury could end his career. Does anyone know if hes had any surgery on it?

I must confess im not a JT fan although did back him when he was in the gp. Didn't watch sbk in his glory years

.

I do hope I'm wrong!

The flipside to this is ofcourse it'd be harsh to judge him on a season that's basically been governed by injuries.

Thanks Lex, so you don't think it's quite over for James yet then?

IDK, he might decide to retire.
<
I do think, if he has the motivation, someone will provide him with a ride.

Nice to see some racing
<
Not fantastic feverish action, but it was nice to see what happens when the Ducati doesn't have an insurmountable advantage over the Japanese 4-cylinder bikes. Imo, the rest of the season is going to be interesting b/c I don't really see a track that favors the Ducati. Imola maybe, but the rest have not been terribly kind. Just a 30 pt lead for Checa so he's going to have to earn this championship imo.

The last 2 laps of RC2 were a little nail biting. You could see Melandri struggling and I actually thought he'd do the double. Never mind. I don't like Max much but boy he can ride very well at times.

Yeh Max wernt guna lose that second race no matter what.

Its a shame to see Haslam battling with the mid packers and getting beaten by the satellite team, he needs to start looking elsewhere.

You are right on this Lex. They seem to be sticking to their plan of developing their own electronics package. As you also mention Lex, they are using race day as the focus of the development.

Does anyone know when they started this in-house electronics plan ? or how long they have been using it on the current bikes ?

Leon really should be running in the top 3 at each round, but the bike just doesn't look up to it.

I believe they have been developing the electronics since 2009. Rumor has it, BMW overhauled the entire electronics package for this season, either according to Haslam's and Corser's wishes or as part of rebuilding the team with Haslam. In any event, BMW appear to have gone backwards, though injuries to Haslam and Corser may be masking the bikes pace a bit. Regardless, it is a bad situation, and I hope they change tactics for 2012. Like Arrab says, rumors around the paddock indicate that Batta is putting together a big deal with a Russian (IIRC) sponsor in order to entice Suzuki to increase support. If BMW get their act together, and Kawasaki finally get a bit more performance from the new ZX-10R, we would see a free-for all at the front.
