WSB returns to America

the track is supposed to be amazing but my question is about the crowds

the track is in the middle of nowhere in utah. hardly the hottest spot on earth. the racing will be good, i just think the potential of filling up every seat there will not be met

A friend stopped for a look on his way to Laguna, and saw some racing classes being held. He mentioned that it's a nice track but way out in the middle of nowhere.

I dont know what the organizers are thinking.Miller is a great track but as mentioned, its out west in the middle of nowhere.Very few from the Eastern side of the United States will make the 2-3000 mile journey to watch.I wonder if the ....... Georgr Barber dropped the ball again.

the racing should be excellent! by the way miller is only about 30 min from downtown salt lake city.

And here is a weird little twist

A round of the AMA Superbike Championship will run in conjunction with the World Superbike round in June – with one big difference: The two series will run on different tracks at MMP. While the World Superbikes will use the smaller 3.08-mile outer track, the AMA regulars will compete on the big, 4.485-mile layout that also utilizes the infield section. The reason is two-fold, Wilson said.

”There are two reasons for it,” Wilson explained. “One is to avoid the direct comparison of one to the other, though the comparisons will be made any way with people doing corner times and things like that. The other reason is because of the commercial reality of dealing with World Superbike and MotoGP. They require a clean track of signage and we have sponsors that we have to look after and the AMA has to look after. So we will put those on the infield portion that’s not part of the World Superbike track and give them [World Superbike] their free track. That works out pretty neatly.”

so finally we get to see bikes run the long track.... excellent! i think the long track is only 4.1 miles long?

No it is 4.5 miles or flat, but beautiful bliss.

The last corner on the 4.5 mile track is actually banked so you can haul ... thru it and then hit the 3500' strait allready screaming. The only negative is the altitude, ive heard it zaps between 40-50 Hp out of the bikes. If it wasnt for that you would probably see 205-210.

Great to see WSBK back in the states.
From a personal standpoint it sucks for because it's at least 2000
miles away. Not too far for MotoGP but defenitely too far for WSBK
I was really hoping Barber got it. I am quite suprised by the decision because I didn't even think Miller was in the mix.
From what I've read the AMA guys won't be doing any wildcards
because they are running Dunlops and WSBK has a control tire.
That to me is pathetic. I think that will deter a lot of people
like me who otherwise might have gone.

As far as AMA racing the long course, that is the last thing they need.
What is the racing not spaced out enough as it is?

Its great to hear that SBK is coming here.Next yr. should be ablast for superbike race fans,With MOTOGPs 2 events and now SBK in the mix, its time to start saving $ and working on a excuse for WIFEY

From what i have read, MILLER is a great track, its well struture and the facility is well adapted to handle the crowds. But yeah it sucks that its in the middle of nowhere.Maybe a ride to VEGAS could turn outy to be worth while?

I know this is a bit off topic, talking about WSBK, but I find it interesting that WSBK announced recently that they are going to race next year in the States at the new Miller Motorsports track in Utah and not the typical venue for Moto GP or WSBK of Laguna Seca. http://www.worldsbk.com/news.php#

In the news article they cite that Miller Motorsports is a top notch facility in comparison to other US venues. I watched the AMA race there this last year on TV, and it seems to be a nice track, but did not appear to be up to the standards of what you usually see WSBK or Moto GP race on, granted its fairly new and I’m sure they will update as necessary. Personally I am pretty excited they are coming, as I live close by in Idaho. I am however curious if they are going to attract the same amount of fans as they would at Laguna Seca.

I also wonder if WSBK likes the track so much, is there a possibility that Moto GP will consider it an option over Laguna Seca in the future? I like Laguna Seca, but it seems the racing there can be somewhat stale.

There is a reason why every race track I can think of in the US is pretty much out in the middle of nowhere.....Noise. While I have not ridden at MMP, I have heard from others that have that it is a great track and a top notch facility.....

Same reason certain cities, don't want CCWS or F1, or Nascar. Noise and hte old people who complain.
