Kevin Schwantz has been talking to mcn about the posibility of Suzuki fielding three bikes sometime in the next 9 races this year.

Ben spies has been targeted for either a test or a ride

dont know much about him apart from i think he has won ama before and is he currently leading this years??

anyone know more about him ??

Schwantz will never shut up about Spies b/c Texans take care of their own. Spies is from Longview (the meth capital of the world) but he's a good racer and he's seems to have steered clear of all the white trash. I'm not sure his style is compatible with Motogp but it would be nice to see him have a go.

If Spies gets into Motogp it will be interesting. He's following the same path Hayden followed, and the global motorcycle market is the same (the American market continues to grow rapidly). But the major difference is that the Motogp machines are more like 250's than the 990's and 500's, so I'm not sure what path Spies' career would take.

I've heard he doesn't fly, so I guess the only place he could make a debut is at laguna.........but I don't think Hopper or CV will sit that one out.

Honestly though, if Suzuki is going to give out free rides they should give Mladin a bike at Philip Island. Maybe he could pull a Bayliss and charge the entire race.

Interesting. That would be a trifecta if they could give him a wildcard at Laguna (Roger Lee, DuHamel, and possibly Spies). But I doubt it. He is currently locked in a battle with Mladin for this year's superbike championship. Oh and he looks to have a good handle on the Superstock championship this year to boot. So for him to ride a wildcard and focus on it, it would have to come after the championship is decided. But it would be great to see what he can do on a Suzuki next to Hopkins. (Just a thought, but perhaps this may shed some light as to why Suzuki was willing to let Hopkins go in regards to having an American market their brand). Then if they didn't win right away, they could say their rider is a rookie and not be srutinized for having a ...... bike, eh? Nah, that's too cynical.

Anyway, as you already noted, he is also the reigning champ at the moment. Check out his bio, he's got some talent.

not a bad idea that, but cant see it happening..

YEAH! I wanna see Spies get a shot! He's a strong rider and seems like a nice guy. The only problems are that yes, he has difficulties flying, which MotoGP riders do a lot and that he has a very point and shoot style.

I might be wrong, but he looks like he would be too big for a MotoGP bike?! I don't know how tall he is, but he certainly isn't a midget like Perdrosa!

Spies is very fast...Very talented but I think the risk is too great while he is fighting for the AMA title. Then again this could be his chance to make the leap to the world stage. It would be great to see.

Mladin is very good, but not the top rider in AMA at the moment, and he's too to be consider for a regular GP ride in the future...so why even waste the time on Mat...when you can get a good feel for a possible future star like Spies.
