Why can no one stand up to Rossi in the last lap of a race?

I don't doubt the guys talent but can't someone grow some balls that if you go into the last lap neck and neck with him that you don't leave the door open for him to pass you on the inside.

I see that at Phillip Island and even two years since Rossi crushed him that Gibernau couldn't help but lose his ring on the very last corner to let him sneak through to get onto the podium. Typical that he remained so resilient in the next race against Hayden.

I'm not blaming Rossi. His character is so strong that it seems the other riders just quake. It can't just be me that sees when he is duking it out with someone in the last lap that he is always going to get past at some point. The inevitability of him getting past and winning the race on the last lap is so strong that you might as well switch off the telly.

Don't the other riders watch or learn what he does. For Gods sake if you are going into the last corner and he's behind you go in so tight that there is no way he can simply sneak up the inside. Even the race in Italy this season with Capirosi, you could just sense the inevitability of Rossi snatching it couldn't you.

In the years of Motogp that I've watched I can only think of one race where Gibernau lined him, took a different line and duffed him on the last corner. Rossi naturally was furious and it was all the more sweeter because someone had 'manned up' to Rossi. Needless to say Gib's sphincter let go and he's never done it since.

As I said I'm not blaming Rossi for being so strong but rather the other riders for being so weak, particularly in the very last lap.

I agree man its like rossi has the zen. is in the zone. karma. riding the friggin wheels off his M-1. like you can follow and study his moves and then when he is ready BAM he is on your a$$ like hair on a gorilla. I mean wake up and smell the burnt coffee. I personally think he will beat all records for this sport. Why you ask ?. 1 he has not been doing ot as long as lets say giacommo. he says bikes are his thing for a while I say 5-8 more years for him and no record will be left un broken.

The complicated answer, however, will vary according to opinion

He will break a lot of records, I agree, but some of Ago's records are just too far away, and no amount of skill can help Rossi reach them. The best example of this is Ago's record for total GP wins, which I belive is somewhere around a gazillion (Not talking about Ago's record for just 500/ MotoGP wins, which I think he's pretty close to breaking?). But Ago used to race in multiple championships each year, making it possible for him to take home a handful of wins every weekend. On the other hand, even if Rossi lapped the whole pack twice in one race, he only gets one win added to the tally, and at that rate, even if he won every race in every season (which won't happen), he'll be pushing 40 by the time he catches up to Ago, and I daresay he'll retire long before that, making that record practically impossible to beat. His only option would be to challenge the 250 title and/or the 125 title in the same year, and this wont happen for a number of reasons, like correct me if I'm wrong, but Yamaha haven't had a good 250 team since Tech 3 traded in their pukkas for a couple of big shiny YZR500s, and it would be too much of a drain, even on an energetic guy like Rossi, and the reality is he's not after the record that much.

Also personally I belive he blew his shot at breaking Doohan's record of wins in a season after he decided to take it easy after clinching the title in Sepang last year. He won't get another chance like that with guys like Melandri and Pedrosa coming into full bloom. But I'm just saying that because I'm a Doohan fan and I don't wanna see him lose the record

SWITCH OFF THE TELLY,IN A MOTOGP RACE..WTF ARE YOU SAYING MAN.

he wins because of his natural tallent and his stress management. He puts gibbers and biaggi a couple of years ago under so much stress they run wide. fact is the yam is probably not the fastest bike there but rossi wins because he is a demon late breaker, thats called balls.
when he raced 250 they always used to say "you cant pass here unless your rossi" or "that was a rossi line" this is for me what makes him so exciting to watch. remember at philip island when he got a 10 sec penelty and still won the race by about 13 secs. some people will say that was a boreing race. not me i call it a memerable race.
just sticking up for my hero and sorry about my spelling..

There's so many reasons people think he's fast, isn't there? Late braker, early on the gas, Perfect lines, the way he uses his body, luck, intelligence, Burgess, mind games.... I wonder which one it really is. most likely all of them.... lucky .......

how much more proof does a person need?

Where can I sign up to join the Official Skidmark Fan Club?

how much more proof do you boys need to show you that Rossi is the G.O.A.T..... stop crying..you all know he's the man..

I've never said he's not one of the greatest of all time. I don't like to compare riders of different eras as it's impossible to prove anything but he is certainly the greatest of his era. That doesn't make him a God, though.

when i say GOD it's metaphoricaly speaking...i don't mean he can raise the dead and cure the sick..... i mean on a motocycle he is on a level beyond any ryder that is or has ever been out there...

He's arguably the greatest of all time for sure, but I ain't rushing out to buy #46 pyjamas.

Easy now, that's a big shout.
He's certainly the boss of Hayden. Hell, he's the boss of the whole field. That's why he wins on the last lap. That, and he understands how to use tyres over the full race distance.

I belive Rossi is an extremely talented motorcycle racer, but the real key to his five world championships has been consistency (That thing people are saying Hayden dosen't deserve the title because he has/had it). Rossi is the best on the grid, but he's not invincible. He's been beaten in close fights before (like Germany with Gibbers in '03) and he's had his ... handed to him on several occasions (like Brno and Motegi). Capirossi beats him on Asian soil, Hayden beats him staeside, and Melandri and Pedrosa have it in them to beat him on occasion, too. But the problem is, none of them can match him week in-week out, and he still wins a lot more often than the rest of them, giving him superior consistency and a swag of world titles.
