Tell me, were you in a coma throughout the first half of 2006? Or do your rose-tinted glasses enable you to see Aussie's on the podium where there are none?

Six championships in the top five for Barros and three top fives for Capirossi, including a third place last year. Highest position goes to Capirossi, most top fives to Barros.

Can you please tell me who the last Aussie in the top five of the championship was and when? Doohan was it?

casey was on the podium in 2006!!! Turkey...

If Loris wouldn't have been involved in the crash at Catalunya he would have probably won the championship last year.

Well i think this is a tough one, because both of them have spent a wile just on the outside of that championship contender buble. Barros had some very good results at the end of the two stroke days, including an incredible 2002 where i was left wondering what could have been if the equipment wasn't so uneven. He never reached that level again after he moved to Yamaha in 2003, even when he had (and wasted) the Repsol ride that so many riders would kill for.

Capirossi on the other hand amounted to less on the 500's, but has taken to 4 stroke motogp very well and has won a few races, and of course we have last year. A truly solid year from Loris and some storming rides, but he had a few weak performances that ultimately left me unconvinced he has that little something that it takes to be world champ. I know you will all complain, mentioning his crash and everything, but that accident happened quite early on so Loris never really looked like a title contender.

Overall i think i give Loris the edge (as the better rider) because he hasn't been around quite so long as Alex, and because his recent efforts have been more productive and worthwile. However i do think both riders are even, not as losers but as some of the handiest riders of the last decade or so. Two solid guys worthy of remembering, just neither of them quite in the realms of the mighty champions.

I would have to say Barros because he's underachieved with the equipment he's been given. This was especially true of the "dream" Repsol ride a few years ago. (Having said that, he promptly went out the next season, did well and won a couple of races on the satellite Pons bike.) Capirex has made the most of his only factory ride (Ducati).

On the other hand, I would rate Barros as the better natural talent. The first time he rode the 4 stroke when he was with Pons (after riding the NSR all season) and beat Rossi two out of the final three races in 2001 is the mark of true talent imho.

So according to your theory CSCVAW, every person who ain't won a title is a loser.

Chris Vermolen = LOOOSER.

Ant West = LOOOOSER.

See how stupid that method of logic is?

No I'm not saying this I'm saying is that you cannot compare Capirossi or Barros to the greats in this class!!!...as there achievements specially in the first year didn’t come or compare to anything like the GREATS OF THIS CLASS!!!..its a simple as that!!! So you cannot call them great...good mediocre yes but not GREAT!!!

The real question is, how do you rank the riders who have never won the world title. Obviously Gibernau and Biaggi are two of the best, and i feel that both Capirex and Barros are a level down from that.

IF was never the beginning to a true story..............

A great rider wins the wc’p and looks like winning one but these guys never did and never will, exsamples of great riders are.. Kenny Sr...Sheen...Spencer...Lawson...Rainey...Doohan...Rossi...its a simple as that!!! That is all that I'm saying!!!

Its worth mentioning that when Barros got his V5 it was using an experamental electronic engine brake system that rossi did not have. Thats why barros was much smoother on corner entry wile Rossi was having clutch problems. I'm not trying to take anything away from Barros, but i wanted to mention that it wasn't identical machinary

Well Stoners first year wasn't great was it?

Stoner is already GREAT by beating the greatest...who I have lots of respect and loved his racing the one and only Mr V.Rossi!!! casey is a great rider and I will NOT EXCEPT anybody saying otherwise!!!

Does everything have to bubble down to the Australians?
Even when we are having a good conversation you all egg the guy on.
Stop with it already! It just personally annoys me!

Anyways, I think those two riders are good riders that have made a good career out of the sport and have influenced it and made it interesting.

Not legendary materials, but definitely worth remembering.

Rossi is still the apitmy of what a great racing champion should be!!! A gentleman and a good sport!!!

Epitomy yes.

He knows how to win, what we like to see.

And how to lose, see Valencia last year, and Laguna last month.

Phil

Capirossi had a great season last year, he handled the Ducati far better than Gibernau, who prior to that had 2 second placed championships in a row... without his crash he'd have come very close to winning it. Also, he's a former world champion in 125 and 250... I don't remember Barros winning any major titles.

Plus, Barros has more experience and less wins, and couldn't even cut it in world superbikes.

By far Capirossi for me.
