Hi Guys and gals. Hoping someone can help me out with my issue.

Am wondering what year and which rider it was, that Rossi let him pass him at Phillip Island, just to toy with whoever it was, then went onto beat them anyway. I think it was around '02-'03 but cant quite remember.

Hoping someone can give the rider and the year it happend?? :-(

Thanks heaps in advance...

“That was a tough race and I enjoyed it. Valentino was setting a good pace so I just sat there.
It all felt good running at that speed – just nice and comfortable. A couple of times Rossi picked
up the pace and I could respond. Then the others caught up and me and Marco battled a bit and
just gave a slight advantage to Valentino. You can’t give a guy like him a one-second lead round here with a few laps to go."
3 Carlos Checa (SPA) Ducati +4.215

it's v Nicky in 05

i remember the race he's talking about, i thought it was 06

vale backed off on the front straight and let hayden through

after a few more laps, the next group caught up so rossi passed hayden and left him to deal with melandri et al

Are these all PI races then? 2001 I remember when Rossi pipped Max on the line, and you're saying '03 was the year of the penalty...(great sportsmen have the power to change the sports they compete in, and Rossi's yellow flag feat ushered in a revision to the rules concening passing under a yellow flag - shame he did it again at Donington and cost him the race to Max).

Yeah all P.I Results and

In 2003, Rossii gave his competitors a hiding when he claimed 9 pole positions along with 9 Grand Prix wins to claim his third consecutive World Championship. Australia’s Phillip Island GP in 2003 was one of Rossi's career highlights when he won after suffering a 10-second penalty for overtaking a crash by Ducati rider Troy Bayliss with the yellow flag marshal on the track. By finishing more than 15 seconds ahead on the rest or the field, he managed to overcome the penalty and claim the race.

Bit of a toss up, isn't it? Rossi did seem to have a penchant for this type of thing back in the day,no?

As i come to think about it,all those races Rossi won in recent years(except 2006).
In some of those races he must have been able to be miles ahead if he would push as hard as he did 2008.
