Went to the cinema today to see this:

You simply have to go and see this on the big screen.

I've always liked Ron Howard since he was Ritchie Cunningham and I do tend to enjoy his style of film making as sensationalist as it may be...but then 1976 was sensational. Loved the film and loved the portrayal of Lord Hesketh.

Following Hunt as a kid got me into watching bikes through his association with Sheene. Had the '... breakfast of champions' poster on my bedroom wall and a scalextric McClaren M23. Haven't followed a formula 1 season since the passing of Senna and the last year I avidly followed the sport Alan Jones was world champion. When was that? '81? Dunno.

Very, very enjoyable 2 hours.

I'm a bit hesitant about this one. The source material for the story is of course a brilliant drama that no screenwriter could imagine. I hope they have not butchered it too much.

The Senna movie was already a big dissappointment to me.

So this a thinly-veiled critique against the stuffy PR-controlled corporatist environments of modern day motorsport?

As I say, it has its more fanciful moments - particularly in the glamorous portrayal of Hunt who despite being a known hedonist and womaniser and every bit as louche as the film depicts, I somehow felt that Chris Hemsworth was slightly unconvincing in the role.

However, be reassured by the fact that Lauda himself acted as a consultant throughout.

I don't think that was foreseen by the likes of James Hunt and Barry Sheene. They were who they were, that is the whole thing about them.

What's up man, have you not been getting laid lately or something?

I was "disappointed" with the "Senna" "movie" because I "felt" that it was a "very" "unidimensional" and "uncritical" "portrayal" of a "driver" that, despite being a "childhood" "hero" to "me", I had "hoped" would get a less "fanboy-ish" treatment. Also, I "had" expected "to" see more rare or "previously" unreleased "footage" of his career.

Is a Barry Sheene in the movie?.. if not ill wait for online bootleg

No - in fact the London entourage/set based around 'Tramps' that both Hunt and Sheene were central to is ignored.

I reckon it's only a matter of time until someone realises the marketing potential of a movie based around Sheene - so many stories - so much drama, like 'Rush' the script would write itself.
