What's the deal with the 800's?

I was under the impression that this year we would have a high-sided season with the least experienced racers getting thrown off (I’m glad this isn’t the case). All we have had is accidents from the front washing out!

Which is good, in the sense that there have been no high-sides or major incidents yet. I feel we're going to have a lot of riders losing the front end, but nothing as big as the Spanish GP. They do seem to be safer on the circuit though, I must admit.

Seems like they need that throttle control that much, or anti spin has become so good that the highside predictions were false.
Lowsides are more likely to happen du to the increased corner speeds.

With traction control and predictable power of the 4 stroke, you rarely will get the good old high side that the Gp 500 was famous for.You just dont get that violent hit out of the 4 stroke.

And that is why more than 2 strokes is a w@nk!

yup those 500 stroker really proved who were the men and who were the boys...wonder how your boy nicky would have faired on the 500,do you seriously believe he could have won the championship on one ?

The Traction control and anti-spin prevents high sides from happening. That and the Big-bang configuration is what makes the engines so user-friendly (all manufacturers except Ducati use Big-bang nowadays).

Take out those 2 things and you would see a lot more highsides, and field wouldn't be so close.

that explains why they have so much more power<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (teomolca @ Mar 27 2007, 03:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>(all manufacturers except Ducati use Big-bang nowadays).

^^This is due to the increased emphasis on pushing the front end to maximixe entry speed, maintaining maximum corner speed, and optimizing exit velocity. The majority of front end crashes are usually from a rider asking too much of his front tire while leaned over and braking at the same time. Mostly we will see this at the entrances of the corners. Riders are braking for main reasons 1. to slow to the correct corner entry speed, and 2. to weight the front tire so the bike will turn easier. Mistakes when riders either overcook the entry and attempt to lose velocity before they run wide, or when riders leave their braking to late. The new 800's actually rely much less on electronic traction control that their 990cc counterparts. The bigger bikes actually had to be slowed down because they made more power than could be used effectively. The newer bikek are actually spending more time on full throttle because more of the power is useable. Losing the front end is chic with the new 800cc bikes.

And by a big gust… “but the wind then picked up and I got blown sideways by a big gust”. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!
