This looks fantastic and is due for next August I really hope it's a success as quite a few of the traditional road races in Ireland no longer run and some of the ones that do don't know whether they'll be back for the following year. Hopefully some of the top road racing names will support it and it's good to see Steve Plater is playing a big part in it. Apparently Gary Thompson who is the Clerk of the Course at the TT is helping with it too.

Also off topic but isn't Brecon Beacons where the SAS hopefuls train?

Yes it is.
Not sure I'd like to ride that course, very boring scenery and you'd need a few days to get the hang of it as its hard to remember where you are seeing as it looks pretty much all the same view wise. Its also nothing like the welsh roads I've ridden, all up and down and blind corners.

According to the what I've read the track is made up of roads built by the MOD and half of the track is actually out of bounds to the public during the rest of the year. I don't think it's too dissimilar to a lot of the Irish roads, it looks a lot more forgiving if you come off though.

There's been talk of a Scottish Road Race for several years now but nothing has come of that yet, I think it's good that enthusiasts are trying to keep road racing alive as there's only a handful of races in Ireland which are guaranteed to run every year.

Seems to me like a lot of name dropping was going on to entice sponsorship, besides the one thing that always looked odd to me was the date of the event, the Ulster Grand Prix is the following week and Armoy is the week before and on top of that that weekend 3-5 August is the Thruxton round of BSB, so absolutely none of the top road racers will go to it.

Don't forget the law changed last year on road races, its a lot easier to start one now.

Yep, I think somethings not being said, according to social media a fair few people were trying to book campsites and hotels nearby and found out that the owners of these places didn't know a thing about it. This Welsh road race has sprouted up from nowhere with a website and a few videos of known faces promoting it. There was a bit of an issue late last year when people were saying who was involved but some of those names were quick to put the story straight.

Anyway lets hope the new road race in Enniskillen this year is a success and maybe the organisers of this event try to walk before they can run. It takes a fuckload of effort to run a road race and some of the clubs in Ireland run on a year to year basis and occasionally have to miss a year or two.

One thing that has pissed me off in the promotion of this event is the "first road race on the mainland" they kept coming out with, last time I checked Olivers Mount and Aberdare Park were public roads.

Olivers Mount is a great event, I like watching when I can get to it from Redmans, but the whole course is fabulous, mind you can't remember the last motgp rider there but wasn't it Sheene?

I'd imagine so, cracking value for money usually and they run 4 meetings a year.
