MILAN, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Italian motorcycle maker Ducati confirmed its 2007 profit margin forecast on Wednesday after posting a 107.5 percent rise in core profit for the first nine months, as new models like the SBK 1098 helped boost sales.

Shares in the maker of racing bikes driven by Australian world champion Casey Stoner raced 8.5 percent higher to close at 1.972 euros, their highest level in about two months.

Ducati Motor Holding SpA (DMH.MI: Quote, Profile , Research), whose quarterly results have been improving this year after the company underwent a major restructuring, said core profit or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) totalled 49.9 million euros ($72.1 million) against 24 million for the same period last year.

Revenue was up 43.8 percent at 322.2 million euros.

Ducati said it made a net profit of 17.6 million euros for the third quarter, against a loss of 4.6 million.

"In light of the results up until today, notwithstanding the euro's strength, we foresee an improvement in EBITDA to 13 percent of revenues for this year," Financial Director Enrico D'Onofrio said in a statement.

Chief Executive Gabriele Del Torchio said the motorcycle maker's brand stood to benefit from Stoner's recent victories. Stoner won his 10th race of the year in Malaysia on Sunday.

Last month, he got his first world title in Japan's Grand Prix. The victory was Ducati's first MotoGP title. It was also the first non-Japanese team to win the premier-class title since MV Agusta won the 500cc championship in 1974.

"These results will strengthen our brand and our market appeal," Del Torchio said in the statement.

In December, Ducati is to present its plans for the 2008-2010 period.

win on sunday sell on monday! stoner sellin alot of bike for ducati!

I don't think its "win on sunday sell on monday!" situation here. If that was the case, 999's would have been a hit. I also don't really believe Stoner has as much to do with it. It all because of the 1098.

I'll take mine in black, please!

People DO love being associated with a winner.I would say it will only get better next year with the new 1200cc Ducati in WSB.I look for Bayliss to dominate. If they were smart they wouldnt come out a kick everyones ... right of the bat.Ease into it so the Japanese makers dont scream foul.Kepp it competitive till the last2-3 weekends then blow them away. That way they wont have to battle any restrictions that WSB has promised if it is to good.

okay Im italian born and raised but I myself would much rather own one of the japanese bikes... not only are ducatis exspensive to maintain but for example a r1 or 1000rr has MUCH better power numbers and are better overall for say going to the circuit!

look at the share price from march till now, it lines up with stoners championship points.

people dont buy ducati because they are the fastest, but because they are prestigious and the guy next door with his r1 wants what he's got.

i owned r1 and gsxrs, but couldnt ever afford the ducati. performance wise 99% of riders will not even get 90% of the performance out of the r1's anyway

Sure.

I want to see their stock price pre-Stoner to be certain.

you can see ducati is on a generall downward trend for the last 4 years, anyway to double its share price in 12months is HUGE. gaining 5-10% is what companies aim for, but 100%???? that is amazing!!!

they made up for all there 4 year lose in share price, over 12 months!!!!

anyway you dont need me to say it, read the article the CEO says it himself. i think he would know a thing or two about selling bikes more than you or I.

of course its not the only factor, but people who buy this bike is for the prestige factor and riding around on a WC branded bike just pumps up thier egos even more.

So none of this at all was down to the 1098? Which had been announced way before Stoner came along?

I know you more than anyone would love to give Stoner the credit for this but the waiting lists in the shops tell a different storry. It was sold more 1098s this april than 999s the whole last year. That was before anyone guessed where Stoner were going. Raise of income is a result of (ramped up) production, not sales. Much of the sales were contracted allmost before the seson started.
After that I'm sure Stoner did his small contribution, but not even you are actually comparing a GP7 with a 1098?

Well gee if Ducati have got it wrong then and are deluded in thinking Stoner is the main reason ..... shouldn't you guys be sending emails off to them to tell them!! ... I mean your combined finacial "savy" should surely show them that there research findings that "Stoner has earned them" were in fact wrong!!!

Especially you italian guys ... I mean theres national pride at stake here!!

When winners win ... it sells bikes!! .... and it translates into huge mounts of cash into a company .... its what happens ...

Hayden ..... sold bikes
Doohan .... sold bikes
Creville .....sold bikes
KRJr ........... sold bikes
Rossi .......... sold bikes

Stoner may not be selling a bike to those who don't like him ..... but the figures show ...... lots are buying ....

Yes indeed my friend....

The 9 months profit. Soars....
Let's not forget that N.America is the largest market for Ducati and Motogp in North America is at the bottom of the list as far as sports fans. So the increase in sales cannot be attributed all to Stoner's success.

The increase is indeed due to the beautiful 1098. This is the bike that the 999 should have been... but all well better late than never...

Also if you pay any attention to commercials you will have noticed that the Ducati has been subliminally planted everywhere in Movies, Chevy commercials, TV spots.... you name it.

The beast from Bologna has been a giant on the race grid and a helluva marketing machine as well... let's give credit where it is fully due....

(okay... I am an engineer and a marketing man thus I notice these things.. now I step down from the soap box and gracefully exits)

Go Big Red Duke.....

How about the Ducati RR too, thats a strange one.. .... wonder if they filled orders on those .... that must boost the profit a bit ..... especially since they aren't even built yet !! its all profit on the books isn't it? ... till they start paying for the goods to build them
