No, see post #8, i am well aware of what they get for supplying free tires. Like i said, the bean counter will decide if advertising banners and bad publicity offset the cost of supplying tires for free,

Still you insist that they "supply tires for free". That's false. Are you a Bridgestone employee?

How do you rule out that they are just being stingy, and that it is their own miserly attitude that backfires on them when things like P.I: 2013 or COTA 2014 happen?

The proof they are misers now, is that when they had to compete with Michelin they were quite able to build the best tires ever made (with their stickers only on Ducati, Kawasaki and Suzuki and few other bikes) , and brought a wider choice of them at every race (fact). More stickers should pay for more tires; but now that they are getting much more they provide much less.... I also blame Dorna for being unable to tie them to a clear contract.

And that's the problem: with no competition, there's no incentive for BS to spend more money and bring more tires to the track. In the past, when there were multiple tire makers in the series, there was some marketing value in being able to say that the MotoGP world champion was riding on your tires. Now, however, whoever wins the world title will do so on Bridgestones, no matter how good (or bad) they are. BS could start cranking out tires that only last five laps and still be able to put "Official tire of MotoGP" into its ads if it wanted.

I'm not defending BS here; yes, they are paying a lot of money to supply MotoGP with tires, but they are getting a ton of advertising space in return. We can argue all day as to who is getting the better deal here, but obviously neither side is happy with the relationship. And, as you pointed out, part of this is Dorna's fault; they can complain that BS isn't providing enough tire choices per weekend, but they seem powerless to actually do something about it.

Pov makes a good point, though: we haven't actually seen the 2014 tire yet. Qatar was an anomaly due to the track conditions, and CotA was run on 2013 tires. We'll see over the next few races how the 2014 rubber shapes up.

Yep, tires were fine,. Marquez and Rossi both set their fastest lap of the race on the final lap. Lorenzo admitted rider error , simply got in to hot, Bradl and Smith said they were more than likely victims of pushing to hard for the conditions

Bridgestone makes an excellent tire that doesnt fall off at all. Last weekend was a one off phenomenon that still doesnt have an answer. Was it ...... tires, or were some of  the teams responsible for dicking around with improper psi or unconventional setups. In the 5 plus years that Bridgestone has beeen supplying tires, the Phillip Island debacle is the one big faux pas that so far can be put solely on their shoulders. Not bad if you ask me. Like i said, how do you win when people actually complain that your product is to good.

Wasn't it indy 2012 that the Bridgestone tyres were "chunking". Spies was one of the victims

I believe you're right. In any event, I remember Spies complaining about chunking tires.

It has been pointed out to me elsewhere that the front and rear tyres may have separate issues.

As I now understand it, the 2013 and 2014 tyres refer to the rear tyres, with the 2013 rear used at COTA 2014, and Jorge not liking the 2014 rear thus far.

However , it was the front which gave Valentino and others problems at COTA 2014, and which was problematic last year at some circuits. As far as I know this is basically the same tyre which Bridgestone was requested to develop and which was voted for by the majority of the riders including Valentino and Jorge  in 2012, with the then current HRC riders (and HRC in statements to the press) the only dissenters, or at least wanting both tyres to be available going forward, with Stoner in particular saying the new front tyre would be insufficiently durable under race conditions. Whatever problems the previous tyre had, durability was not among them.

I think the tire issue was a green track in 2011. The riders bitched about the new surface but by race day it was fine. 2012 was when Spies looking good for at least a podium, and maybe even a win  when his bike exploded on the front straight
