What do you want to happen? Is the current state of play good for the sport or is it just good for Dorna?

Should we bite the bullet and rally behind a control tyre?

Or should it be a genuinely 'free market' where teams decide themselves what tyres they want to use each year without interference and without tyre companies being permitted to refuse supplying anyone?

Is Yamaka's proposal that any team may use any make of tyre, any time they like, dependant solely on what is best for them at a particular circuit or in certain conditions, the only fair way forward?

What did you vote and why....

uhm, what's this about?

ok ok ok you guys

I tried to set up this tyre poll just as I was going out last night but guess what, either it didn't work or I made a balls of it, more likely I did sumfin stoopid. I didn't have the time to try again so I pm'd the mods to just delete the whole thing but you guys just had to bust my balls hahaha very good............s

sorted now......smartarses.

I voted to let teams use whatever they want each season.
Any tyre company that is in motogp must supply any team that requests it,
that must be a condition of participation, if as a result everybody
decides to use one particular brand and a control tyre situation evolves,
then so be it. Let the teams decide for themselves. The companies that 'bring it' and
consistently produce the goods will stay in competition, fairest way I think.

Just thought I'd add my original comment here to help clarify.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>My answer to the tyre problem is to have Michelin, Bridgestone, Dunlop and even Pirelli bring a tyre truck to each race. All teams could then buy each tyre for maybe $1 and try it. If it was not to their liking then they'd go back to the trucks and buy some more. This would be REAL competition between manufacturers. Sure, each would want to produce a tyre that the best rider of the time could win on and so they'd have a real tyre war on their hands. Be it Stoner, Rossi or Pedrosa; Ducati, Yamaha or Honda, they'd be producing the best tyres they could. And we, the road rider, would seriously benefit....

Maybe, given the view that the fans can influence Dorna, we should have a poll on this?

Skid, I think your choices are a little confusing. :

a. Nothing. The situation for 2008 is fine.
b. Impose a control tyre.
c. Allow teams to use whatever tyres they want each season.
d. Allow teams to use whatever tyres they want, whenever they want.

Why do both c and d exist. Surely d would do (get rid of c) given my scenario. I read the poll and voted for d, but c is only a subset of d....

If you've read my related posts you know why...

c. Allow teams to use whatever tyres they want each season.
d. Allow teams to use whatever tyres they want, whenever they want.

And why is that? Not wanting to be rude, but based on "Sure, each would want to produce a tyre that the best rider of the time could win on and so they'd have a real tyre war on their hands. Be it Stoner, Rossi or Pedrosa; Ducati, Yamaha or Honda, they'd be producing the best tyres they could."

I can't see an obvious difference between c & d

There is some chance that c could happen. I don't think the tyre companies at least, and probably not the teams would go for d. Unless the tyres from the different companies were quite similar, in which case you might as well have a control tyre, it would be difficult to design the bikes also.

i agree 100%.

Allow teams to use whatever tyres they want, whenever they want.

But i see one major problem the tyre sponsorship on the bodywork would have to go..

thats the clever thing with stickers, they peel off and stick on real easy

I voted 3, because both teams and tyre suppliers need to be able to plan and test, so decisions should be for a whole season.

Ah, now that the wine haze from last night has dissipated I can see the difference
<

My original suggestion was effectively D, which is how I voted despite the wine
