The Ground War Begins...

Interesting thoughts alright. It's gonna be as level a playing field as you could want in the next half dozen races. Michelin have more data on these tracks than anyone, any wet weather will surely play into their hands even considering the B/Stone's wet weather reputation, and there's every likelyhood that there could be rain at le Mans, it's not that far from the english channel. I'd have to say Rossi, Pedrosa and Hopkins would be my picks for the podium at le Mans, not in any particular order, who knows if there could be any surprises there for the michelin guys in the form of a late charging bridgestone shod suzuki?

Mugello is a different story. Last year Rossi, Capi and Hayden had a real close one once Gibernau hurt his toe. Then the Yamaha seemed just about as quick as the Ducati, in fact all three bikes were evenly matched. I can't see anyone making a pass stick for that long on a marlboro Ducati at the Italian track. Even on the last lap, the finish line is about halfways up the straight, does Rossi want Stoner breathing down his neck at the last turn. Don't think so. It'll be Ducati 1-2 with Rossi making up the third spot. Fuel could be an issue for some.

Catalunya has that 1km straight so I'd be thinking Stoner again, not just because of the straight but it has always seemed to me like a track where a small mistake can cost a lot of time, a good rythm seems to be the key particularly the second half of the lap once you start that inner straight through the stadium section and onto the front straight. A mistake there or too much sliding around will kill lap times. Considering Stoner hasn't put a wheel wrong or made a single mistake so far I'd have to bet on him with Rossi and obviously Pedrosa/Elias in pursuit. It is Spain after all.

Donny, Rossi Rossi Rossi. I can't see anyone beating him here, it suits him and the Yamaha. The bike seems to be on it's side for so much of the lap, Burgess & Co will have that Yam set up sweet and I can't see any fuel issues. I can't imagine you're on full throttle for more than 10% of the lap if even that. Add to that only two dead slow turns and I think they can turn the wick up on that Yam as high as they want and still have a few litres to play with. Stoner and Hopkins will make up the podium.

Assen or what's left of it seems from the WSB round to be kind of Donnington-esque without the elevation changes. It's a real pity what they've done to that place. Rossi, Pedrosa, Melandri. what the hell.

The Sachsennring always throws up a real good race. Orrmate said about Elias and I'd have to agree although my gut tells me it could be Hoppers first win. It's a twisty ....... of a track and that left hander at the bottom of the hill has Elias written all over it. I'll go balls out and say Hopkins from Elias from Pedrosa.

So what will that do to the championship by the time we get to laguna. I guess it all depends how hungry Stoner is at the tracks where he won't get it all his own way.

Rossi 182
Stoner 152
Pedrosa 105
Hopkins 100
Elias 71

Ok I'm bored and killing some time but what do you all think. I won't even get to see the LeMans race live cos I'll be in Amsterdam. Won't be able to see anything actually

Le Man should be rossi, maybe his ..... team mate will help him out and put himself in front of stoner. The stones were solid last year, Loris came second and casey 4th, so its a track they can both perform well at. the bike is working well, so I can see Casey on the podium. I think this could be very similar to China with hopper fighting near the front. If elias makes it thought the first turn he may push toward the front, but I cant see any hondas fighting for the victory just yet.

Mugello is rossi land, he managed to defeat all comers when the yamaha was getting smoked down the straight in 04 (even though it was a sprint in the end). rossi will eat the corners up on the final lap pass a ducati half way through the lap and pull just enough to win. casey and loris podium.

Cataluyna is a bit more interesting, the addition of he chicane before the long straight offers another passing opportunity. the track just reminds me of qatar for some reason and the dukes should rule.

donington and assen are rossi victories. edwards will not be a threat. assen = sachsenring, tight twisty, power doesn't count for ..... casey did well at donington and assen last year, in fact i think he'll be comfortable at most tracks.

Of course rain will .... all these predictions up!!!

they've altered the track for f1.

taken from the McLaren Website

How has the track been modified prior to the race this year?

The main change to the layout of the Circuit de Catalunya is to the final two corners at the end of the lap. The two very quick bends have been replaced with a chicane that flicks left then right. Primarily for safety purposes, the modification is designed to encourage more overtaking at the event with drivers being able to follow the car ahead more closely as they sweep onto the long, fast straight. This should allow for better slipstreaming and therefore overtaking opportunities into the first corner.

I assume this is a permanent change. I can see Rossi slamming his bike in front of the Ducati right before the main straight

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (skidmark @ May 10 2007, 09:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>But not for GP's.

Are you sure? It's quite special to make an alteration that doesn't become permanent for all. We do have a track like that in norway, with two different chicanes but that's the only place I've seen that, except for all the "national" (shortened) tracks of course.

I've checked the Catalunya official website, and if you click on the track map for F1 it has the chicane, but for Motogp the track is in its normal configuration

I did, and looked at the Track submenu and didn't find any there. Didn't look in the separate F1 and motoGp sections. Found it now. Thanks.

i can agree with all your assesments here paul with 1 exception. sachsenring. hopkins has never done well at this track so i can't see him up there. & no rossi? the guy is very good at this track, even tho he claims to not like it, won it last year & don't quote me on this, as far as i can remember has'nt been off the podium there.... well since i can recall

the yamy seems the sweetest handling bike as well. i'd have to put rossi on the top step here.

Not to worry Frosty... The secret is that I don´t really Google them mate, I do have all the results in an Excel file of mine, so just some filters and dynamic tables for it to pop up!

Glad to be of any help...
