Hybridization in motorsport already a trend back in 2008 when Peugeot LMP1 car equipped a hybrid technology followed by Audi LMP1 in 2011. Formula 1 introduced a simple hybrid called KERS in 2009 (with an exception of 2010) until the upgrade to bigger hybrid components like ERS, MGU-K, MGU-H, hybrid battery from 2014 season. Many cars and motorcycles also have hybrid components including PHEV and hybrid batteries. MotoGP must evaluate the hybridization by adding a KERS in order to secure MotoGP future. The hybridization will also incude the turbocharger introduction in the MotoGP class if the engine displacement have a massive reduction.

Your opinions? Will MotoGP follow the F1 suit by switching to hybrids in the future?

I remember it was a couple of years or so ago when they asked all the factory team bosses about electrics or hybrids they were all pretty adament that they wanted no part in it at the time.

I would have to think at some point it will happen though. It'll be a sad day.

When what they build or propose is lite enough they will start openly talking about it i think.

I was thinking about it this morning on my way to work. The other thing that needs to be taken into account is also the cost saving measures that the series has put in. Changes in rules are costly but a rule change to bring in hybrids could end up seeing a lot of manufacturers opt out. I doubt the series is in much of a rush to rock the boat too much, there is a stronger field than ever with more factories.

Can't see the hundreds of thousands of current day enthusiasts flocking to the track to watch bikes that you can't smell... and sound like sewing machines. Try and imagine 180,000 fans at the Cathedral Of Speed holding their hands behind their ears in attempts to hear expensive two-wheeled sewing machines.

if they could make it work with the weight, then I think you will start to see it incorporated on the motogp bikes. who wouldn't want an aditional 50hp at the push of a button?
