Well it looks like the British Superkart Championship is starting down the MotoGP style "decisions based on finance" road and to me thats a downward spiral.
The British GP event, the highlight of the European calender, being held at the fookin Snetterton 200 circuit?! WTF is going on with UK circuits these days, its £35,000 a day to hire somewhere like Oulton now yet knobs in things like BTCC get PAID to go there. When are these places going to learn that the money and support comes from the grass roots series such as 750MC, NG Road Racing, Superkarts etc which are racing there most weekends come summer or winter and if they all pulled the plug these circuits would have no money to lure the big name series to their tracks. Fookin world has gone to .... and money orientated.
Its a £300 entry fee for the GP (usually £200) plus for me its the other side of the country so its easily nearly a grand to do that weekend and i'm not spending that to race on what is essentiall a large rectangle, jeesh!
What i wanna know is how come some British Championships gets huge media coverage and others like ours don't?? Its a British Championship.
You may have read in the Motorsport News last week that the European Champs might come to Snetterton. Well just to put you in the full picture here is what is being considered.
Both the BGP and a round of the European Championships are on their own difficult to make viable so the plan is to combine the two into one great event. It is not possible to hold the European races at Cadwell because the circuit cannot take enough on the grid to satisfy the CIK so we had to move it to a circuit somewhere in the same hire charge bracket which Snetterton is.
Many of you would of course have liked Donny or Silverstone perhaps but this is just not possible financially as they are hugely more expensive than Cadwell and Snett.
We would love to hold it on the 300 circuit but that may not be possible because the 300 is £5k per day more expensive than the 200. If we can get backing then this can be considered.
Snetterton although perhaps not the same challenge as Cadwell does have much better facilities which include garages and fully tarmaced paddock.
We were in any case thinking of a change of venue after several people lobbied us for a change venue.
If it comes off the Division 1 Grid will be run to the CIK Championship format with the British GP being an addition race to the programme for the Division 1 guys. The grid for the British GP could then be decided by the drivers fastest lap from two CIK Championship races. This has not been decided and is open to debate.
There will in addition be some cars races as part of the programme to bring in much needed addition revenue. This would have been the case if we had gone to Cadwell again.
Currently a decision is awaited from the CIK regarding dates. They have been offered one in June and another in July. July being our favoured date.
The other CIK dates could well be Assen on Aug. 4/5th and Le Man on Sept. 8/9th although Hockenhiem in April is also a possibility. The CIK are trying to broker an agreement to have the period between the first event at Snetterton and the third round at Le Man dedicated to the CIK European Series with no other Div.1 races around Europe. The French have announced their dates and satisfy this wish.
