Lorenzo has expressed concern over the high speed that the 1000s can reach, and wants moves to limit the high speeds. Is this because he has only raced 800s in the top category, unlike Rossi, hayden, Pedrosa, Stoner etc. and just isn,t used to it? Is he a woose ? Or is he just being honest, while the others feign a lack of concern.

How would a speed reduction be achieved? A reduction in capacity to 800cc ..................... haha

Speed limiter??? A stupid idea,..........no overtaking on the straight.

Different bore/ stroke limit.?

Add 100kg to each bike?

Unworkable? ................... probably.

Like i said in another thread, Jorge talks one minute about loving the new found power and torque, then says they are to fast.

He is just the newest puss in a sport full of badasses. He's been to the Isle of Man, right? He does realize that it is a dangerous sport and they have the safest conditions of all motorcycle racing, right? If thats still not good enough then maybe he should become a .... fluffer or something safe like that.

It seems contradictory. Which is ironic you would point it out. But if you look at it more carefully, perhaps something your not use to, it really does make sense. He can be praising the torque and power, since this would make for better acceleration out of corners, hence torque, but the power might be a bit scary on a long straight at over 200mph.

Now I'm not a professional motorcycle racer, but I might be a bit flustered at excess of 200mph going into a turn that required hard braking. As much as these guys are amazing at what they do and repeatedly push beyond the threshold of comfort, they still are human. I'm sure their adrenaline is way up and fear is managed much better than us. I think that's what Lorenzo was trying to express. Statistically, most all the crashes happen at turns, but it still doesn't make the straight at that speed any more safer if youre going faster. I think Lorenzo is within his standing to express his concerns about speed. As a spectator, I want them to go faster, because its a thrill for me; but hes the mofo on the seat, so I will defer to him in this case.

Personally I believe he has ever right to be concerned, especially if the New bridgestones are not up to par, Rossi and Lorenzo have both been quoted as saying that tyres scare them and with the amount of injuries last seasons due to front end wash outs caused through a lack of effective heating in the front tyre, they have good reason to be scared-not from the extra speed but the uncertainty of what that extra speed will add to the unpredictability of the rubber-especially if they get some of the same climactic conditions which judging by Europe at present is highly likely. Add 10-15 Kph to the speedo on the straight and the correct amount of heat in that front hoop becomes even more vital........

Lorenzo, the motorcycle racer, loves the feel of the power. Lorenzo, the human-being who understand phsyics, is aware that circuit homologation is not changing and the walls are not moving farther backward.

That is all. In a sport where the brake pads can be dislodged from their proper seating by a minor headshake or a love tap with another bike, top speed is something you have to think about.

Good point about shake affecting the callipers, as it happened to Stoner one race.

But how can we reduce top speed without going back to 800s with higher corner speeds and faster crashes.? Any thoughts?

Have a minimum stroke that is higher than now ,could be the best option..............lots of torque and less hp. I don,t think Dani would appreciate more weight though.

whats that

Can be controlled by gearing? Just tell the teams, hey if you exceed this top speed on consecutive laps you'll come in for a ride thru. Now do I want that?... nope, but I also don't want to go back to 800cc and have the bikes limited by more electronic nannies.

The strength of the Yamaha is its corner speed. The strength of the Honda is the acceleration and resulting top speed. Of course a Yamaha rider is going to want a limit on top speed. I say give it to him as long as he is happy with a limit being placed on mid corner speed too.

As has been commented by a rider in the past, riders have become so accustom to the safety of the tracks and the lack of consequences for getting it wrong, highlighting the astro turf over concrete in run off areas instead of gravel traps. If the top speed is too much for Lorenzo and makes him feel unsafe then don't twist it so far and only go as fast as the conditions of the track, circuit and weather allow.

Ah, so Lorenzo is just trying to handicap Stoner. Got it. Dogs balls...we see them.

jesus christ...

the bikes are heavier than ever and will most likely for the first time break the 350kph barrier. and now that finally somebody expresses concern over the insane speeds he's called a ..... or this has some thing to do with yamaha/honda/stoner?

one question, do we really need to see bikes that are faster than say, 300 kph at mugello?no , because breaking from 330 and breaking from 300 to 100 look exactly the same .

just change the fairings, that way they will get the same torque and power but acceleration from around 200kph onwards will be a little slower

and while they're at it , ban slipper clutches. much more fun to see a true pro breaking from medium speeds and downshifting correctly than this fake two stroke kind of riding
