Safety Commission

going to a safety meeting is not high on anyone's priority list among the current riders except for those that spearheaded it. remember that this commission was started after Kato's crash which most of the current grid weren't around for.

the safety meetings are considered by most to be somewhat like the lame and boring meetings you have at work; maybe like a fire drill or an informational meeting about health benefits. you'd rather skip the meeting and go about your business. it's an annoyance to you and takes up time you don't want to spare.

like mentioned above, it's probably going to take another disaster to get the riders motivated and take ownership. and then the same thing will happen and the pendulum will swing again.

rossi gets enough sunshine blown up his butt, but i respect the guy for continuing to take it seriously. in all respects, it's probably another thing the riders hate him for because he's like the nerd in class reminding everyone to do their homework. you don't think he'd rather shove that responsibility off onto someone else so he can focus on the weekend?

Sorry Vermy, but I know when the meeting is held. What's your excuse??? There's a thing called initiative. Only too easy to sit back and do nothing. I mean what the hell, two hours on Friday evening on a race weekend must be bloody precious. Why don't they just admit they can't be arsed??

i agree, it's also bad that some older riders like barros checa ect also did not attend, maybe they also were not invited (my attempt at sarcasm )

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Bikergirl @ Jun 27 2007, 06:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I think the simple truth of is, that too few riders racing today remember the really nasty crashes of the past. How many of them remember Kato as more than 'that guy who died at Suzuka...and hey we don't race there anymore anyway' kind of thing. It's not real to them in the way it is to older riders. I believe Rossi got very involved with the safety commission after Kato's death. Gibernau also (since someone asked). If it takes Rossi dictating what needs to be done, then so be it. But Rossi won't be around for ever and the younger riders need to start taking responsibility for themselves. What the safety commission does is selfless dedicated work for EVERYBODY's safety. Rossi might be thinking of leaving Motogp after all, and Capirossi is close to retiring. The younger riders need to at least start understanding how it works. I really doubt this is an effort to get Stoner into a battle of words. That's the kind of cynical view the press would take in an effort to create enmity where there is none. Another Biaggi-Rossi scenario would really make their day. Even that quoted article refers to rossi's 'sarcastic' tone. Doesn't that sound like someone is stirring things to anyone else but me? I've heard Rossi being interviewed after every gp this season. He's never had anything but praise for Casey and I didn't hear a hint of sarcasm anywhere.

yep! it's common knowlege when the meetings are held & like rossi said in the article the meeting is open to all. it's not an invatation only meeting.

it is a ashame... they set a bad example. there is no excuse why thes guys don't go to these meetings other than they just don't want to be bothered with it. it's their saftey the meetings are about!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Vermeulen hits back at safety claims
By Jonathan Noble Tuesday, July 3rd 2007, 15:47 GMT

Chris Vermeulen has hit back at criticisms from Valentino Rossi and Loris Capirossi that the sport's younger riders are not interested in safety matters.

Rossi and Capirossi, head figures in MotoGP's Safety Commission, expressed frustration at the British Grand Prix that the new generation of riders generally stayed away from their Friday night meetings.

"A lot of riders say, 'aaahhh, this track is ....', 'with the asphalt no way', but then at 5pm on Fridays, nobody comes. Never," Rossi told autosport.com.

But Vermeulen has said he doesn't understand why Rossi and Capirossi have been so outspoken - because he has never been asked to go along to the meetings.

"They have never invited me to start with," said Vermeulen, who joined MotoGP full time last year. "All these (safety) decisions are made wherever they make them.

"It is like the new start rule that we get in warm up, which I think is not maybe the best idea. When we had the meeting about it, Nicky (Hayden) was there and we got told by race direction about what was going to happen.

"Nicky said he didn't know anything about it. Now, he is the world champion and they hadn't even consulted him! They (Rossi and Capirossi) might say that, but they haven't come and asked any riders. And I don't know when the meetings are."

yes ive met people like this at places of work, they moan about this and that but then sit back and let others do the dirty work so they look like there not the ones rocking the boat..
bang on rossi and capi

your full of .... you wimp.Do you have some inside information that we don't know about? If CV said this then I have no reason to doubt him.

Anyone notice a pattern here?
It seems that being a world champ dictates that you shall become a 'spokesman' for safety.
At least this theory worked until Nicky anyway.
The consensus seems to be look after your own neck because ain't nobody gonna do it for ya.

I can't believe I have just read "They didn't invite me to meetings" Oh christ please, this isn't a book reading meeting. "ASK".
