Exactly. How many times have I heard or read about the poor dude who didn't put on his gear. So I sweat a little, tough ..... I'll drink some water when I get home.

When I first started riding (posted pics on another topic) I went down in a high side. Leather jacket, helmet, gloves. Everything up there was tip top. Down low - jeans and running shoes - thrashed legs, ankles, ..., knees, etc. Lesson learned, I wear gear now.

all the more reason to cover that skin with a nice protective leather skin. they do make summer gear you know...

<

sacky is right, learn your lesson the easy way from an anonymous internet user instead of from a physiotherapist as you try to rehabilitate after the surgery etc to replace all the lost skin.

But i dont ride to the point where a highside is possible.

If you highside, you are pushing yourself. Save it for the track, not the road.

It doesn't have to be a highside though. You could easily lowside/loose the front instead. Even the most innocuous spill can cause damage if you don't have the right gear on. Saying that, I just threw on my helmet and went to buy a paper in just jeans trainers and a sweatshirt - got pulled out on twice in the space of three miles. Yesterday I rode 118 miles without a single incident.

It is said that an accident is most likely to happen within five miles of your own home. So buy a pick up truck, stick your bike on the back and drive beyond a five mile radius...or failing that, move into someone else's house

I'm an old fashioned type of gal, Black leather jacket (with tassles) Black lid and Jeans/leather for winter. But always gloves and boots.

I'm so unlucky. Following this comment, I crashed yesterday two miles down the road at 30 after hitting a peice of gravel. The bike spat me off but carried on going (I could of held on bradley smith style, but when its gone, its gone).

I came off fine, couple of graises, but the bike - its a bit worse. The throttles ripped off the handlebars, the electrics are screwed, the fairings a mess and the tank ripped off.

..... SAKE

You were flat out when it happened then.

No, it's no joke, and I'm sorry to hear it. You've only just got the damn thing. Was it a country lane? because often the gravel from resurfacing gets swept to the centre of the road. Also, I take it you lost the front, and it was on a bend, unless you were on the brakes at the time and didn't see it.

Post a pic of the damage

It was the backend that went (I think), yea it was flatout

Yea, thats what happened (RE back lane).
It sort of slid out, i came off it, and it carried on going, I couldnt really tell, but it then hit a kerb and recked the handlebars.

I'll get a pic up in a feww.

Its been painted up since yesterday but not working yet... my dad now reckons its a write off, what a pessimist.

The handlebar has been repaired as has quite a bit of near the back brake peg etc.

Brake fluid container on handlebar smashed.

ouch!!!

good U didnt get hurt too bad! man! slow down a bit! dont wanna talk about "fault" or sth, but Ur not riding very long do ya??

I went with a group of seven other ninjadrivers on normal road in germany and the minimum speed they go on NORMAL ROAD is 160 km/h (app. 100 mls!!!). minimum!!! and in the corners: knee down!

i slowed down a bit and let them go their speed, cause u never know what awaits U in the next corner. if i wanna go flat out I first do sth. like a sighting"lap" of like 15 corners an then go back and open the throttle.

in your case its good the fork is not damaged (as i think i can see on the pic!?!?)
how expensive will it be to get the bike fixed? do U use used parts or new stuff? can U fix it yourself?

best wishes!!!

I'd be lucky to get 100 on a straight (not even that at the mo).

Yea, luckily it was so slow theres no extensive damage like forks, suspension, engine etc.. mainly electrics. My dad (who has never had a crash in 30 years.. i've had two in 4 months
<
) is fixing it now.. it starts now which is a good sign.. just really need to get a new brake fluid container for front! I was so luckty! All the left side of the fairing is damaged (the tank is dented) so probably need a new one of them.. the front segment was off but its ok now, repaired with a fibre glass kit.. all the wires were ripped out, killswitch, revometer, frottle, lights.. only the rear indicators survived (well, and more advanced wiring). I'm lucky the damage is small, but then again unlucky cos it was so slow there shouldnt of been any damage except bodywork.
The biggest worry was I'm 3rd party and i only got it one month ago on finance - would of been a big ....... if it was written off.

"3rd party"...waht does that mean? (sry 4 my bad english! BLUSH)

Oh Ur still paying for it!? did i get U right?

man...take care and watch it! would be ed if U destroy it and pay for sth. U dont have anymore!
<

i mean: this can happen to anybody if the road is dirty! dont get me wrong! but anyway: Take care man!

3rd party is cheaper.. fully comp is like.. the insurance you should get to cover yourself against stuff like this, third party is more made for people who cant afford fully comp like me:p

And yea. .. 2 years left on finance.

For sure, I was taking care but I will definitely be extra slow on that peice of road in future.

WHo voted only helmet?

<

Its working now.. no front brake and no mirrors, right handlebar controls move, but apart from that.. all good!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (rickyduck @ Jul 5 2009, 08:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>WHo voted only helmet?

Some sadist no doubt, there's no way I'd go out with just a lid on!
<

Hope you haven't got too many bruises!

I didn't vote because it depends on which bike I'm riding, riding conditions, my intent (cruisin' or hustin'), and where I am.
