Pit to bike Radios

Its been reported in mcn, after the pit lane madness at Phillip Island, that Valentino has said that he thinks pit to bike radios would be a good idea, in the interests of saftey. He also said that they have tested radios, but it's hard to hear when cornering (presume coz his head would be closer to the lump?).

Me - personally I wouldnt not like this to be introduced. MotoGP is a team sport, but when it comes to being on track it should be the rider that makes informed decisions, not teams. They have a pit board already which gives them what they need to know..............I fear that if they introduced it, the racing would suffer.

Having said that...................I would have loved to hear was Shinya "Kamikaze" Nakano said at Motegi when he nearly t-boned Sete!!............haha................a few swear words me thinks!

Whats everyone's thoughts on this - its currently banned in GP's.

im with you on this one ben,im afraid it would turn motogp like F1 with riders being ordered to let team mates pass for championship reasons.
mabe if they need to be fitted for safty reasons then they should only be used for safty reasons and race control could listen in and fine teams who break that rule, is that a daft idea ?

I agree. Although there are no team orders now in F1 (or so I think), the riders are the one responsible with the bike and all when it is on track and so let's leave them to that responsibility.

...isn't it what made Rossi reject a possible F1 seat in Ferrari? --- people telling him what to do in the track...

Haha, no team orders in F1. Funny
<

And I'm strongly against this idea, as Ben said, they have pitboards already, thats enough information for them!

I'd like to have radios!!

That way we would hear the conversation between pit and rider. I don't think the racing will be affected since the messages are delivered to the riders throught the pit board anyway.

Roberts used it last year I think but it was banned by the FIM because of safety issues.

no team in orders in F1???? PLEASE Jane don't make me laugh.

^ I know there are team orders! haha, kill me if there isn't. What I meant was that there were no team orders in the radio...or as far as I know, no team orders were passed through the radio...I messed up big time, right?

i think its a good idea, but only for emergency stuff like if they want you to come in the pit for a 10 sec penalty or if you pass someone when the yellow flag is on etc. And they need to be monitored so that no f1 fiascos will happen.

I wouldn't mind radio's being introduced. I'm sure they could just put some rule in place that would prevent team orders.

yeah i agree. not for general chit chat between rider and garage. you wouldnt want someone distracting you on a bike. its more safe for F1

Youall should check out a u.s. nascr race they use radios and its a lot talk to the drivers everything from I got a flat tire to. complaints on other drivers like he is an a hole for bumping me out like that etc. I think it would be a distraction keep it like it is. the rider in control. on the track.

We've talked about this before, I think it was Ooost who pointed it out that some rider from the AMA tested them (It was either DuHamel or Mladin I think) and they said it was a huge distraction, with his team even asking him what he had for breakfast and stuff. They got Pitboards for teaminfo, and flags for info from race control. If they do introduce radios they should be under the control of Race control, supplementing (not replacing ) the flags, telling riders when to pit in, ect. Don't even let the teams get a look in.

Rider-Pit radio been completely legal since the last 500 season. Riders don't like it, I wouldn't like it and you don't need it. The radio issue only came up after the Phillip Island pit lane debacle.

Good memory Richo, it was Duhamel. And absolutely, it should be to supplement any direction from race control and teams should be completely left out of the equation.

It'd be very unsettling to hear Lorenzo's spitting his wrath on the radio. The language wouldn't be a barrier, I promise. Even Mamola would get it.

would be a stupid idea, too distracting.... takes their mind off the game and take away from the sporrtttttt
