Phillip Island may lose MotoGP??

I think you posted the wrong Vid Gaz.

As to you knowing some racers who did not think Bathurst was bland, well ask them how the long ride was around to get back to the fun bits ( Griffin's to Forrest Elbow )
<

<

In reality the only fun bit was across the mountain, the rest was just getting back there.
<

And there was talk of stopping racing long before the "crowds" got silly. About the times of the TZ's Conrod straight became a launch ramp.

Even a retired Ron Coombs made a comeback and was killed there, sad day as I had met him on a few occasions, and he was a very helpful old fellow.

Wow I even looked up Ron Toombs on the net, and found they have a section of a museum dedicated to him:

Nah, I posted the right video as I like the whole circuit on the bike one to show it at it's best, unfortunately race day showed a different side.

As for the guys I know, many considered Conrod straight (the old piece) as being the icing on what was a sensational cake. One of the guys I know even missed his podium as he was in hospital but would say that the only bland bit of the entire circuit was the pits afterwards - he loved every bit from lofting the front on mountain straight through all turns, but I guess we know different people.

No offence Nuts, but I much prefer this video, complete with onbike commentary by Dennis Neal (I had posted it previously here and the aftermath of the race video)

Sounds AMAZING. I wish SBKs would go back more sport (less race) oriented engines. It would be interesting if they went naked again as well. It would certainly eliminate confusion between SBK and GP, and it would also eliminate some hefty carbon fiber bills.
<

Sounds crazy, but naked is a huge market. It would be good for the manufacturers, but there is no telling what the riders and fans would do.

I know Bathurst is not possible (and the safety mods would ruin the spectacle of running between walls), but I wish those in charge could find inspiration for future GP circuits. We need more tracks with undulations and big hills. These flat F1 tracks are awful for any kind of racing, let alone bikes.

In the DTK film (Laguna Seca 2005), Colin Edwards talked about carrying the wheel an inch off the ground and setting it down just over the crest of the hill leading to the corkscrew. We need more hair-raising tracks like this.

Back to Bathurst, it's too bad the 24 hour race isn't back. That place deserves a 24-hour sports car race.
