I'm going to PI this year, but trying to avoid staying in Melbourne and driving down each day.

Anyone been previously and stayed somewhere reasonable close to the Island. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Rent a RV?

Hotel on wheels, works out cheaper than a hotel too if you get a few sharing with you

+ theres room for any broke buddies to crash on the floor and use the toilet for the beer induced diarrhea!

If its the driving that bothers you, another option is to catch the bus down each morning/home each night. Leaves from Fed Square and drops you back there each night. Buses are actually coaches, so pretty cushy and all have toilets/tvs. I found it to be a really awesome option last year, since I live in Melbourne and couldn't justify staying out at the Island and meeting their "3 night minimum" and paying through the nose for it. Might give you a few more options to find something cheaper in the CBD. From memory it was about $35 return each day, booked through Foxtix.

Thanks.

Have been looking in to the campervan option.

Kindo, the bus is probably an option, but I'm planning to go Fri, Sat and Sun, so 2 hrs on the bus each way each day will do my head in.

Who else is planning to go to PI this year.

Last chance to see Casey drifting up over Lukey Heights.

Definitely try to rent a house on the island - .... driving or busing down from Melbourne!

4 of us chipped in a few years ago (2004 I think) to rent a place near Smith's Beach within walking distance (long walk) to the track, and when many were leaving from tent land on the Sunday morning after being rained on all night we were arriving fresh in shorts

Look on the interwebs but here's one for example http://www.rent-a-home.com.au/accommodation/vic/phillip-island/smiths-beach-/44523

Yeah I get what you mean, but it actually is probably closer to 1 1/2 hours, and I just used it as a good excuse to have a bit of an extra sleep
<
I went Sat and Sun last year and didn't find it too bad. It's an option anyways.

yer the bus run suits some - as you mention some catch up on sleep.

I couldn't be bothered doing it that way myself but it sure would save some accomdation bucks.

Hopefully I can hook in with my brothers contacts again especially being Caseys last run in the premium class love to be there.

I am tossing up between renting a house ($1850) or hiring an RV ($1600). Probably going to go with the RV with Toilet and Shower. Will finalise this week.

Could consider getting a house for a Powerslide Meet up as they all sleep 8-10 which works out pretty cheap for those on tight budgets. Can then hire a minivan for transport to track and back each day. Stoner fans pay cost, Rossi fans pay double!!!!

Anyone wanting a house on the island should probably get their .... together now. I have it on good authority that accommodation is being snapped up at a record rate since moaner announced his retirement.

Hahaha Fanboyism, Neobopperism

Its spreading for one year only!

Reminds me of the local football (soccer) team when they got into the premiership!

Season tickets went through the roof in sales and the common bloke (who had supported them for 20yrs plus) couldn't get a ticket.

They went down that season and the common bloke never came back.

Yep, I've found nothing........

Might be doing the drive each day from Melb.

Not me dude, I've been to PI for many years before Casey ever turned up.

Problem is in the past have either camped with friends at the track, or done the drive from Melb. Frankly, neither option is that great.

This year taking my wife, so looking for somewhere closer to the track to stay. Not just jumping on the bandwagon because of Casey's retirement.
