Ryder Notes: Island Boys

Valentino Rossi gave a couple more hints about his future outside of MotGP today at Phillip Island. The subject was rallying: he will drive a Subaru at Monza on 20 November in one of those one-off events that is more of an end of season party for racers from various disciplines (except top end rally driving) than a serious competition. Rossi has driven at this event twice before, but not in a factory Subaru. He also dropped hints about what he called 'snow rallys' in January and February.

American Nicky Hayden sused the Thursday press conference to point out that the last three races will 'make or break' my season. Entertainingly, while talking about the intense fight for second place in the championship he referred to
the title being 'won in Japan ... or somewhere' while Rossi was sat next to him. The title was won in Malaysia.

Camel Honda stand-in Chris Vermeulen was slightly surprised by the number of journalists, photographers and TV crews at a Thursday afternoon press conference in MotoGP: 'Usually [at World Superbike] I'm just talking to three people!'

According to Mr. Julian Ryder Hayden has tried to lure Rossi into mind games any chance he gets all season. Hopefully Nicky can back up the talk when he gets a chance.

Hey Ooost thats a bit silly isn't it, you have to really threaten they guy to start playing mind games, Nicky is no where near a championship threaterning situation. Rossi player mind games but only with a guy how is a real threat

Gibbers has pace again.......................should we have a sweep stake on what lap he's gonna fall off!?

Twelve laps in.

Hey Teo get a load of this, guess you not gonna agree

AUSSIE rider Casey Stoner has upped the fear factor on struggling championship leader Dani Pedrosa in the lead-up to Sunday's 250cc Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

The rising star wants his rival to be running scared, backing two fellow 250cc riders' statements that Pedrosa's confidence was shaky after falling back into the Australian's clutches in the past two championship rounds.

Stoner, who is chasing his third straight win, could close within one point of Pedrosa with victory at his home circuit.

He said the pressure was now on the Spaniard who, having won world championships easily in 2003 (125cc) and 2004 (250cc), was not used to being hounded so late in a series.

"I know the whole (of Pedrosa's) team is feeling the pressure," Stoner said yesterday.

"I just have to keep it on them. I have to be fast every session this week and make him scared. That will make him try harder and maybe make some mistakes during the race. Even (Andrea) Dovizioso and (Alex) de Angelis reckon Pedrosa has lost it because he's under pressure.

"Because I'm hunting him down, maybe it's going to be too much for him. I'll be interested to see how he holds himself."

Stoner, who turns 20 on Sunday, heads to Phillip Island full of confidence after winning the Malaysian and Qatar rounds of the championship in the past four weeks.

Pedrosa crashed out of the Malaysian Grand Prix and finished an unconvincing fourth in Qatar.

Wow Elias is impressing, Vermeulin is starting to look threating up to 13

Checa and Rossi look to have good consistant race pace, Barros, Hayden and Melandri might be able to hack it. Sete is pretty inconsistant.

My prediction Ben is Sete will stay upright but will cross the line shaking his head again
