Another SPANISH RIDER IN MOTOGP Anyone ??????????????

=========================================

Paul Bird flew out of Brands Hatch for a holiday in Barbados happy that he had sorted his racing plans for next season. The Cumbrian multi-millionaire confirmed that he will continue to run a two rider team in MCE British Superbikes and a two-rider team in MotoGP.

Bird finalised his plans in the pit-lane at the Kent circuit where he oversaw the behind the scenes work to speed Shane Byrne and his Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki to the British crown. The third for the rider and also the third for Bird’s highly- professional equipe.

After a couple of days of indecision, with everything seemingly in the balance Bird confirmed his plans on raceday morning.

“I shook hands on a deal with Andy (Baldwin) of Rapid Solicitors to continue their sponsorship with the team next season so we will be in BSB with two Superbikes and in all probability we will run with Kawasaki again – that would be sensible,” said the chicken magnate.

Bird would not be drawn on who the riders would be. “I’ve still to confirm them but it will not be problem will it – the best team, the best bikes!

“I’m quite excited about it all now – I feel that I am wanted here and in MotoGP, not like it was in World Superbikes. In BSB Stuart (Higgs, the series director) does everything to make you want to race here. And MotoGP want us.

“We will run two riders in MotoGP and that is well underway now. We have a new chassis being manufactured for us and that should be ready in November. I wanted to run two British riders, but it may be that I have to run a rider of Dorna’s choice.

“There will 100 per cent be one British rider in the team but maybe it is out of my hands with the other – Dorna want us, they’ve upped the funding for us. Obviously we have done a job for them - our reliability has been good even if our results have not been the best.”

It will not be a Spanish rider. Already too many Spaniards in that championship. Same with the Brits, there will 4 on the grid next year. It will probably someone like Hernandez.

Hahaha, the league subsidizing who gets to play on what teams. Having grown up around US stick and ball sports, that is just weird.

Agree, not a Spanish rider. They already have the top 3 spots covered, a mid-packer and some grid filler (not to mention everybody's favorite Italian). They'll be looking to S.America or Asia me thinks.

You really think they would pick someone else. I don't think they care how many Spanish riders are in the field to lessen the chances of another Spanish rider joining the MotoGP Circus.

How will having another Spanish rider help sell TV rights in Asia, or the UK, or France, or Germany?

At least we know it won't be an Aussie considering Dorna have just successfully chased the last one out.

Australia's problem is that there is a distinct dearth of talent at the moment. Lots of solid journeymen, but few real talents. Personally, I really rate Jack Miller, but he needs to curb his teenage enthusiasm a little.

The thing is though, would any outstanding talent be riding a CRT though? Apart from RDP and 'maybe' Aleix, who in the current CRT field would be capable or running at the front on a prototype?

It does seem that MGP is very two-tier at the moment, both in terms of machinery and talent. I'm not putting the CRT boys down, but most of them are there for other benefits than their talent, would you agree Krop?

Of course. Ezpeleta did not negotiate Rossi back on to a Yamaha to lose. Marquez was not moved straight to a Factory Honda to lose. Dorna's dream would be 2013 WC - Rossi. 2014 WC - Marquez. Dorna wants a show where the most popular rider wins.

I know you are new to the sport but you have been here for long enough to know that MotoGP is not a pure competition. Surely you have picked that up?

Agreed. Marquez, Lorenzo, Pedrosa (Rossi is an unknown, he's getting old and has been on a Ducati for 2 years) are so much better than the rest that it's pretty much irrelevant.

As for Josh Brookes, yes, he did well in BSB, but look at the people he beat, and ask yourself how they would fare in WSBK, and how WSBK riders have fared in MotoGP. Brookes is a talented rider, but he is Tom Sykes talented, not Casey Stoner talented.

Agreed. No one is on Stoners, Lorenzo's, Pedrosa's level. But everyone is saying that no TC will sort the men from the boys and Brooks is the top nonTC rider in the world in 2012. He is easily good enough for CRT.

For the record I don't believe that Lorenzo would be able to stick with Stoner and probably Pedrosa's with no TC and would quite likely be challenged by Hayden and a few others.

I think he'd figure it out. He spent enough time on a .... bike (the Derbi) to find ways of going fast. This, I believe, is the key. Stoner, Pedrosa, Lorenzo, Marquez (that Suter is crap) have all had to compete on lesser equipment. It's teaches riders to find the extra few tenths from their riding style. I fear for riders like Elena Myers, who is clearly very talented but had never been given a POS with a bent frame to race. You need that to be competitive.

following that logic rossi will be better than ever next year
<

for the record i agree, dealing with lesser equipment definately helps in the long term.

have to ask though, when did pedrosa have anything less than at least a ...lets call it very capable bike?

2007. 2010. And those Hondas in 250 and 125 were up against the Aprilias.

Oh, and it looks like Yonny Hernandez will be in PBM.

Oh I'm not so naive I don't know things are worked in such a way as certain factions want them to work. But surely if you seriously believe it's that manipulated I have to wonder why you'd still be watching? I don't mean to be rude or anything, if I felt like that I'd see little point in watching myself is all. I don't want to think it's all been decided before I ever sit down to watch, where's the fun and excitement in that? Maybe I'm saying, you could be right, but I truly hope you're not.

of course, aprilia were the class of the field but i wouldn't have said the honda was to the aprilia what the ducati is to the yamaha now

2010,ok clearly not as good as the yamaha

2007: if we are talking season beginning i agree but i thought in the latter stages of the season the honda was no worse than the yamaha .might have to add here that i'm not convinced the ducati was the best bike in 2007,it never was IMO

just out of curiosity : what would your ranking be for the top 5 bikes in 2007 (over the course of the season,or if you don't mind : beginning and end of the season)?

thanks for replying

edit: i really hope that pbm won't be dead last every race, i really enjoy watching hernandez, he's exciting to watch and surely the most entertaining part of the CRTs apart from still having edwards interviews

2010, start of the season, that Honda was trying to kill Pedrosa. Vicious wobbles and rear pumping. When asked what if feels like, Pedrosa says "It feels like ....".
