Only 5 engines for the rest of the season!

Fark, 6 engines for an entire season sounds totally ridiculous and without defining what is an 'engine' makes a mockery of ongoing in-season development.

Is an engine just teh cases or is it a sum of all parts?

If all parts, then surely replacing an internal component would equate to a new engine and as such be outside the rules or need to be one of the seasons 6. So, if one manufacturer starts the season with an inherent design issue taht may lead to reduced power making the machine uncompetitive, they may not be able to correct it without breaking the 6 engine rule.

FFS, this is getting more stupid each year and really sounds unworkable.

Not if it is supposed to have more or less same power AND last longer, which is obviously now the target of a new 'arms race' among the MotoGP manufacturers. Already there are rumors of pistons costing 10 times as much, made of exotic new materials.

One more divide between factory and satellite teams, by the way.

Dorna have a solid record for inventing stupid rules that get the opposite result, and this one is no exception!

Spot on mate ! This like most Dorna rules this is an ill thought our knee jerk reaction. If there not careful all the teams may ditch dorna and start a fresh like F1 threatened to do. I think the team contracts run out with dorna at the end of 2010. That how i understood it when kawasaki pulled out.
