Oh how i hate DMG

In another move that is a smack in the face, DMG announced the payouts for the rest of the year. The new Harley class will have a higher payout per race than ASB, DSB, and SS. I know the the other classes run 2 races per event, but this is ......... How long will it be before the Harley class is the headliner? With these clowns, im guessing not long.

What it said was Harley was offering contingency money that doubled what DMG was paying. The purse went from 5000 to 10000. Thats all good and well, but what kind of influence is Harley going to have on DMG because of their gifts. Last year, Buell money got them in trouble with the racing fan, its just a matter of time before Harley money does the same.

There is an undercurrent of hatred for American motorcycles within the racing community b/c Harley used Congress to slap fat taxes on imported motorcycles over 750cc (?). They are kind of like the Ferrari of North America, if they can't win, they change the rules so they don't have to adapt to the changing competitive landscape. I don't think DMG was necessarily guilty of bending the rules for Harley b/c DMG bent the rules for everyone including Aprilia, KTM, Ducati, and Honda.



Time will tell what happens to the AMA. Atlas has done well to stay out of the press, but at some point he's going to need to address the fans and let them no what's going on. The AMA is teetering on the edge. If it goes over the cliff it will end up like a motorcycle version of Grand Am which is just a cheesy businessman's track day. If they put the sole back into the sport and they start getting other people to pay the racing bills, everything will be on the up and up.



It is encouraging to see people like Eric Bostrom and Kurtis Roberts returning to AMA competition, but new sponsor involvement has not been forthcoming.
