Observations on qatar race

I found a site that i downloaded the whole broadcast from Eurosport live including pre race and post race.I have watched the race 5 times and here are are few thing i learned and a few observations.

1 You Europeans have no idea how good you have it when it comes to Gp coverage.Compared to the crap we get from Speed TV,i thought i was going to be ill.Even the announcers, whom ive heard some of you guys trash, were excellent compared to the drones im used to.They were somewhat funny and had a working knowledge of what was going on.

2 They reported that the difference between the performance of the Factory Yamahas and customer bikes during the race was because of a tuned down map on the spring mototrs to get them to the end of the race on fuel.Unlike in qualifying where they could run full tilt and not worry about fuel. They said in the straits alone, they were 4/10ths slower than in qualifying. After the race,Toseland was virtually begging for the new engine. He figures his performance might have been one for the ages with the new motor.Shows how much i know,i allways figured more RPM's and horsepower meant more fuel consumption, that is obviously not the case.

3 After watching the race numerous times,Rossi's tire did not appear to be shredded any more than the riders he was battling with towards the end of the race.I would stop and zoom on everyone around him and they looked the same. After a high speed right hander, there would be a line on the rear tire that would disappear after the next slower right hander.Lights, reflection, dont know.

4 The announcer summized that the Ducati camp had the computer set up to come on more power as the race wore on to let things unfold and also to let the Stones get up to temp before abusing them. The first 5-6 laps, the Duc wasnt even pulling the customer Yamaha's in a draft and then boom, you saw the speed advantage everyone was waiting on.The announcers said,I think Casey just found 6th gear.

5. Even though the Ducati is very fast,it appears to be the least stable bike out there.Front end shake and chassis flex under hard acceleration out of slowr corners is much worse than the other bikes.Casey just keeps it pinned and lets it come back to him.The more i see of him the more im convinced it is him that is the superstar, not the bike.

All great points.

Yes, the Euros have no idea how good they have it. Roger sent me some recordings from past races and I was stunned at the coverage and commentary they get. And still I hear sometimes they guys complain. WTF. But my anger is focused on the chimps running Speed TV. They suck ... with their .... programming of psuedo-MTV-wanabee shows and their use of Neanderthal commentators like Gregg ‘kindergarten-vocabulary captain-obvious’ White.

+1 I always watch the eurosport version when I have the chance, sometimes I can't wait for the download.

In the Qutar race I observed Casey Stoner once again dominating the race. He was more than 5 seconds in the lead. Most of the broadcast was staged around the 4th place battle most of the race which is good because I got bored to the teeth watching Casey ride around the track. I really enjoy seeing the battleing no matter what place it is however I wish it could be for the lead (ex. Catalunya 07). I am very worried about this season. If teams don't step it up and get close we could see Casey winning the GP as early as Japan. Qatar is making this season out to look like a repeat of last year barring injury, DNF's, etc. If Casey wins Jerez then everyone is in some serious trouble.

Great post Povol, and I have to agree with you, SpeedTV sucks arse. Not only do they mess up the broadcasts (Qatar this year) but the coverage is limited, not much pre-race. Although I loathe the AMA coverage, they do cover a lot of the pre-race that I would love to see of in the MotoGP coverage. Don't get me wrong, the AMA announcers are definitely not that great. Anyone remember the coverage last year of Sachsenring by the AMA guys and Kevin Schwantz? Although I appreciated Schwantz insights, he comes off a bit dry. On top of that they weren't even watching the race half the time and missed commenting on various passes and such. I don't know why the AMA has to try and dramatize everything, I guess they think all Americans want all of their TV shows hyped up? I guess all I want is: give me the facts, know your ...., know whats going on with the teams and riders, watch the race, comment on the action, get excited when something happens.

I for one never really cared about who won and by how much when it comes to prototype racing.I have my favorites and close racing is fun but prototype racing is about who builds the better mousetrap
There has allways been dominance in that type of racing, cars boats, motorcycles.Moto gp Bike racing is the one series where you occasionally get a great finish unlike F! or anyother series.Spec series is where you get the wheel to wheel racing and if MotoGP listens to certain people about tires and rev limits and all that ....,thats what you will have.

i've said this before... if speed would just give coverage to motogp like they do fnone.

however, formula 1 has more audience, more sponsors, meaning more money...

even in my part of the world, formula 1 gets to be televised during quali and race...and they always do it live. in motogp, however, we don't have the quali. and they sometimes do a delayed telecast, especially if it will clash with f1's schedule.

great post povol, the guys on eurosport are great, sometimes over excitable but that's why i like them, they've got a lot of passion and as you say, they're very knowledgeable. put up the site name you got it from so other guys stateside can pick it up. by the sound of it the speed tv guys must be pretty awful.
