2.4.8.1 Fuel Injection System

2.4.8.1.2 Fuel Injection System refers to throttle bodies and variable length intake tract devices.

The original homologated throttle body must be used.

The use of an optional homologated throttle body is not allowed.

Fuel Injectors must be stock and unaltered from the original specification and manufacture.

Electronically controlled throttle valves, known as 'ride-by-wire' may be added or changed. However the safety systems and procedures must always be present and fully functional.

Variable intake tract devices cannot be added if they are not present on the homologated motorcycle.

The throttle body intake insulators may be modified.

Bell mouths (including their fixing points) may be altered or replaced.

Vacuum slides may be fixed in the open position.

Secondary throttle valves and shafts may be removed or fixed in the open position and the electronics may be disconnected or removed.

Air and air/fuel mixture can go to the combustion chamber exclusively through the throttle body butterflies.

Only for motorcycles homologated after the 1st of January 2010

• Electronically controlled throttle valves, known as ‘ride-by-wire’

systems, may be used exclusively if the homologated model is

equipped with this system. Software may be modified but all safety

systems and procedures designed by the original manufacturer must

be maintained.

From what im gathering, it appears you can add fly by wire on a bike that isnt homolgated that way

Ronald Ten Kate spilled the beans a couple of weeks ago about this rule when he revealed that the SBK commission would allow Honda to add throttle by wire to their bike. Not much of a change. When the rules were first written, few bikes had throttle by wire. Manufacturers who under-utilize the technology, on their stock machines, may add racing throttle-by-wire systems.

This rules change has been on the docket since last season when the FIA announced that fuel pressure would be regulated via the homologation papers. If fuel pressure is regulated, the teams need the most accurate throttle systems they can get. Much easier to equip a racing system on a race bike than it is to develop a racing system for stock machines.
