New Gibernau rumour

Translation from motociclismo.es

A new team (actually an expansion of the 125cc squad) might come to MotoGP next season. Gelete Nieto (ex 125 rider son of the multiple champion Ángel) would be the team boss of Onde 2000 team in MotoGP, and Sete would ride. The bike will be a Ducati and the money will come from "Paco el Pocero" one of the most famous bussinesmen in Spain. The team will share it's logistics structure with Pramac Alice.

Report says it's not all signed yet but it's very likely to come reality.

5 Ducatis, they would share the logistics with Alice, but it would be an independent team. It's funny how companies say they cannot supply something cause they are at their limit (Bstone to Rossi and Dani, Ducati to Aspar etc ...) yet with the right amount of €€€ factories turn magically more produtive.

yup, the grid is way to thin for my liking. i would like to see 25 bike grid one day.
our sport is shrinking mate and thats not good.sure i would like to see the manufacturers even and new ones so we dont see peeps like the big H saying to peeps like dorna "do or we will pull out" effectively killing the sport like honda did in gp500 and ducati did in wsb.

I could see that too. I would like to see Suzuki step up their game and put a few more bikes on the grid, same with Kawasaki. You do not have to pump money into the teams either like Honda and Yamaha does to their sat teams.

If MotoGP was more affordable, I think KR would be back and many other groups with no or little factory support building their own bikes and engines. MotoCysz was going to be that until Dorna went the 800 route. Bike rode like a 125, but was a 990.

Talking about independent prototype builders I miss the KRs, MotoCyszs, & Ilmor Enginering. BTW what happened to Ilmor?

Money dried up that quick. They have no sponsors that would cover the team.

I don't understand why MotoGP hasn't got any new privateers knocking on it's door considering the recent influx of new fans (by way of squids on sportsbike i might add...thanks guys). But think about it, MotoGP is the 2 wheel of Formula One but at a fraction of what it would take to startup a team in F1. One would think it would be a wise investment for sponsors, but it doesn't seem to be that way for whatever reason.

Still costs are too much for people to get into. Even leasing bikes from say Honda will run your one bike team 10 mil USD.

It is a smart investment to get into F1 or MotoGP, but that is the problem. F1 is still king and will get the big bucks over MotoGP any day. There is still a bigger audience there.

A bit OT: Does anyone know how Motogp get their funds? Is it all up to sponsors and the manufacturers themselves? In F1, i think teams also get a share from the TV revenues as well as get the logistical cost handled by Bernie E. when they manage to score a point... Is this the same for motogp?

I'm finding it very ridiculous that sponsors/participants cough up $70-$100 million to be a back marker in F1, whilst motogp can barely find a sponsor willing to dump $5-$10 million for a top motogp team. Not to mention that new teams in F1 have to pay something around $40 million USD just to be able to join the sport (if they don't manage to buy out a bankrupted team).

Is Carmeleto E = Bernie E in F1 or Max M of FIA? or both? Who's in charge for the commercial aspect of the sport? Who's in charge of the technical regulations?

+1

Only 18 bikes, with a couple of riders not starting due to injuries, everyone is almost guaranteed points.

^+1

more bikes means greater odds of excitement happening and a bit of added impetus to the midpack riders to up their game. any new team is very welcome...

So speculators out there... why aren't sponsors knocking down the door to MotoGP? Could it be our beloved sport/hobby just doesn't cut it as a mainstream commercial draw? Motorcycle racing demographic is not as appealing as WE would like to think. But then again there are a lot of companies out there that should be marketing to mainly risk taking males, aged 16 to 60... Hmmm... THAT'S why Rizla's such a hardcore sponsor!!!!

I love the silly season! Would be good to Sete back, though I wonder who will be coughing up the psychiatrist's bill when he returns to his losing ways. Surely his medical carrier has figured out he will need long term care.

See this video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vn0Cfm-Mvs

Anyway more bikes on the grid can only be a good thing.
