So what's Rossi supposed to say? Everyone knows the Ducati is faster in a straight line than any other bike out there, so Mugello with it's big straight favours it. Everyone knows that Rossi has had problems with the tyres.
I just don't see this whining Rossi character that our fried ToniElias sees. Rossi is just telling it like it is as far as I can tell.
Hi Valerian, welcome to the forum. You make a great point and question. But here is what I think. It’s one thing to reveal/explain (some would say "blame") certain elements
after the race, once the results are known. But I think its quite another thing to
anticipate an explanation (some might say "excuse" or "rationalization") of potentially "not" wining
before a race. So now what happens if he wins. Will he be scrambling for an explanation?
I think what Rossi has done by making those comments has effectively
tainted the result no matter what happens now. What he has done is an
attempt to invalidate the result if he does not win--and this is nothing more than un-gracious. I realize
Valerian, you may not see it this way, but consider for a moment if Casey would have said something similar before Jerez, something like,
only if Rossi's bike and tires are perfect, will Rossi beat me at Jerez because that's the only way Rossi can beat me. (
Do you see the message in that? It wouldn't be giving credit to Rossi the rider, but to his machinery. Well its the same message Rossi's pre-race comments are making! Its like saying, Rossi only wins when his package (bike/power/tires,etc) is perfect/superior, othersiwise is is anticipating not to win! Well, in that case and in this spirit, the rest of grid should forfeit now. Crown Casey the victor, and lets all go home.
Even though some on here would lead you to believe that Rossi can win even when his bike isn't perfect (Or as I remember it being said) "Rossi will win if his bike is not less than ....." It’s this idea that has been repeated and perpetrated here often. So now what, his fans now only accept Rossi to win if his bike is perfect and nothing less? Haha, its laughable how the rationalizations have evolved. Look, Casey and Rossi's machinery are infact close enough all things considered (straights speed and corner speed) so it seems to me he is now splitting hairs and making excuses. What he had been saying
after a sub-par race, is now being done before a
race.
