I would love to, but just can't do it this year. If I pass my journeymans test (part of the reason I can't go,) I should be in for next year! God I miss the Indy races...

An original RD from the '70s. My bad, I thought you meant an LC. This is great - I love the cafe feel to it. Does it still have the working autolube?

I premix. I can't remember why I eliminated the autolube. They're supposed to last forever.

Did you see the footage today of the geezer dragged up the aisle of the United Airways flight? Apparently this overbooking is becoming an increasingly prevalent - although the airlines are completely within their rights to do so.

Why am I mentioning this here? - because as some will recall it happened to Willski, Red Rocket and myself at Chicago O'Hare attempting to get to the inaugural race at COTA in 2013.

To be fair, we weren't forcibly removed from the flight - but only because we weren't actually allowed to board it in the first place. Having been diverted to Indy from Chicago due to adverse weather conditions we missed out connection to Austin. However AA did eventually lay on an additional flight to at least get us back to O'Hare. Spectacular short hop - quite literally through a window in the storm. It actually transpired that we hadn't missed the flight because the weather had prevented it from leaving. That meant our original tickets were still valid. Upon arrival we sprinted across the airport to find the gate and as we got there...it closed. There were several other disgruntled passengers and a very pissed off Forward Racing team who furiously informed us we had just been 'bumped' from our seats by Valentino Rossi and his entourage.

Never got any compensation bar a razor, a sleep mask and a bar of soap - Flew out the next morning after several hours negotiation on a pay phone and a sporadic few minutes kip on an improvised camp bed.

So there you have it folks, this is precisely why Wills is in reality a closet Rossi hater. Of course I was far more magnanimous over the thought that Uccio's fat arse had possibly occupied my/his our designated seat(s). But you know what? as the guy from Forward grimaced over his card game - ".... me backwards, that guy even gets preferential allocation and falls on his feet in a ...... up fly by night free for all"

Yup thanks for the reminder!
And fcuk that seat stealing guallag covered .....!!!

It should only be 17hours from the UK.
Still took us 38.
I actually felt a bit guilty, I sorta talked Arrab and Willski into the trip telling them how cheap the flights were.

do you get to fly direct to Austin, or do you have to stop in Atlanta, New York, or Dallas?

We have to go via a hub - which can be interesting. Impossible to go direct. In our case it was Chicago - and there was a supercell parked over Southern Lake Michigan. Actually, bar Queensland Australia, I've never seen a thunderstorm quite like it.

We also few out on a particularly ancient 757 which it transpired had a cable hanging off the left wing when we touched down in Indianapolis. Indy is not usually an International airport, so they had to call in passport officers/staff before we could disembark. The first thing AA told us when we arrived at the desk was that they hoped to get us to Texas by the Monday.

the larger carriers are so bad, the best airline to get around the lower 48 states is South West Airlines, cheap, very efficient, I tell my international customers once they get into the US the best way to get around is SWA.

I live near the lake on the southwest side of michigan and can attest to it. The winter is worse. The surrounding areas can have no snow while the lake dumps a over a foot on us.

You have to stop and change on the eastern side it was Chicago to get to Austin, However when I came over for La-Guna I avoided O'Hare like the plague and changed at JFK. And will do any other times I come over.

Saying that - if you are prepared to pay extra at least you have the option of flying direct to San Francisco. Throughout most of the last decade flights were to cheap to the US I was stateside twice a year.

Perhaps you can find a discounted fare on United and both you and Red can swoop into Austin. I hear there are recently vacated seats.

Steve, staying somewhere.

This thread sure got derailed.

Anyone heading to Austin want a great deal on a shark race r pro helmet, message me.
