From Crash.net

• The MotoGP championship will have a maximum of 20 rounds (currently there are 18).

• There will be no further changes to the technical rules until 2021, unless there is unanimous agreement or for safety reasons. Therefore “there will not be a rev limit unless everybody agrees.”

• From 2017 there will be six manufacturers participating in MotoGP: Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, KTM, Suzuki and Yamaha.

• All six have the right to participate with two bikes, but also the obligation to lease a minimum of two and maximum of four bikes to private teams.

• The maximum lease price for a MotoGP machine to a private team will be 2.2 million euros a year, including everything except crash damage.

• The championship currently has 25 riders and for 2017-2021 that will reduce to 24 (despite the arrival of KTM) with a priority for the existing teams.

• Dorna will have the right to buy the entry places for the last two in the championship each season, in order to avoid anybody participating purely for economic benefit. “This is a right but not an obligation. I hope we don't need to use it,” said Ezpeleta.

• Any further manufacturers (not including KTM, which has already officially signed-up for 2017) will need to reach an agreement with one of the existing private teams.

• Dorna will increase its financial contribution to the manufacturers and especially the private teams by more than 30%.

MotoGP News - 2.2 million lease price among MotoGP 2017 announcements

Interesting that there's a cap on the lease price. 2.2m Euro's - that's not a great deal more than the Aprilia RS250 racket when it was the weapon of choice.

I like the 'crash damage' exclusion...anyone care to hazard a guess what Cecch has incurred so far this season?

I wonder why any manufacturers would lease more than the minimum at that price? Can't imagine there's much margin there. At any rate, I'm not going to .... on this as we are indeed seeing greater participation than we had just a few years ago when everyone was predicting the death of the series.

Probably more than a small country's national debt..

The thing is, Honda Yamaha & Ducati are taken care of. So it would just be Aprilia, Suzuki and KTM (Which will by the looks of it have to supply a sattellite team in their debut yr which could be interesting). So assuming the 1 less bike on the grid is Abrahams entry, who's getting what?

Tech 3 = Yamaha
Pramac = Ducati
VDS/LCR = Honda

So that leaves the following 'existing teams' that can lease a works bike:

Aspar
Avintia
NGM
Ioda.

If I were Aspar I'd be chasing those Suzuki's. I wonder if NGM will stick with their custom bike (Yamaha engine in a custom chassis). and Avintia might go for Aprilia as they can't use a Ducati? Either way theres then KTM left and 1 place for a 1 bike team, but I'm pretty sure you won't be seeing the RCV1000craprr on the grid in 2017. Maybe Aspar, LCR and Cardion can put lights and numberplates on them and sell them for $200,000 dollars? Lex might buy one.

You might enjoy the taste of humble pie, but I encourage you not to over-indulge. Furthermore, it's hard for anyone to believe you're a motorsport engineer, when the RCV's stat sheet has caused you an existential crisis of this magnitude.

Don't let the RCV be your Waterloo.

Haha you're a funny guy Lex, oh wait I'm thinkiing of someone else.

You're the oddball who seems to telepathically know every personal detail of each forum poster...

There is no telepathy involved. From the comfort of my armchair, I knew the bike wouldn't make much more than 200hp on pump gas with 1000cc and spring valves. 212hp is actually quite good, and I'm not surprised it requires a special race exhaust, ECU and other tweaks. If the bike really is a MotoGP replica as billed, I'm not surprised Honda think the bike is too savage for the road. Since engineers generally hate cutting corners for mass production, I'm not surprised Honda went the $200,000 hand-built route.

Why would a casual fan with a spreadsheet and amateur knowledge of engines be less offended by the RCV than a motorsport engineer? Doesn't add up, does it?

I knew that too Lex, but then you might need to get your head out of your ... and look up the definition of the term "Forum", is it not an online discussion platform? As for being offended? Not willing to pay the asking price for something is not the same as being offended.

Come on then, you say 'Special exhaust', what's 'special about it? You claim to know much about mechanics and design of bikes engines, so you must be familiar with exhaust flow patterns, pressure wave/pulse modelling software?

I love how you think I'm getting wound up, when in fact as Jumkie often says, I'm completely laughing my ... off at you. :D

You tell me, I'm not using my engineering credentials as an appeal to authority.

Can't be a nerd fight without any nerds. By the time this plays out, I suspect we'll find a Welsh hospitality worker posing as an F1 engineer.

Whoa, shots fired!

I'm offended by the fact that anyone would think the Desmosedici is better than the Honda.
Utter pile of ....., built for thickies to ooo and ahhh about, and to allow for rich flogs to demonstrate their <cough> refined knowledge of motorcycles...

bit like the Honda then. Both are ....... jokes.

You'd love that wouldn't you. No appeal to authority my friend, was merely stating a fact of my experience and knowledge which, given you've admitted you are simply an armchair expert, I don't need to lower myself to the level of technical talk with someone who will then spout it off to others like his own learned knowledge. My knowledge runs at a hourly price far above your means. So on that note I've had my fun so won't waste my valuable time on an arrogant Texan anymore :)

Lemme guess, you ran an IP check and it came back as Germany, right?

I said the RCV isn't a travesty, and you've been trolling since. You're an "F1 engineer" whose trolling with the stat-sheet stunting squids. I was content to leave it alone, but that's not what you prefer apparently.

It ends one of two ways 1) admit you're not a motorsport engineer 2) admit that you're losing your mind about the RCV, and engineering prowess is not the cause.

So stern, Lex. So authoritive.
You do realise you're just typing words on a screen, yeah?

I can see Aprilia having problems with that.
