Hopkins safe despite drinking binge

John Hopkins will not be sacked by Kawasaki after missing the opening day of free practice in Misano last month.

Hopkins was alleged to have gone drinking after relationship problems with his wife Ashleigh, although at the time the team said his absence was through injury.

Kawasaki senior bosses are understood to have wanted the American's contract terminated immediately, although he will instead be hit with a severe reprimand and heavy financial penalties.

Hopkins manager, Bob Moore, confirmed that the matter had been dealt with and his rider would remain with Kawasaki next season, alongside recently signed Italian Marco Melandri.

"John is riding for Kawasaki next year in MotoGP," Moore said. "We have cleared everything up."

I would feel sorry for the dude, but honestly...he's got a charmed life....I wouldn't have gave the ..... a second thought...i'd be nailing the umbrella girl 10 minutes later.


I'd like to know what exactly went on...what she do?...who'd she do?

Yup. Julian Ryder called it with his post on Soup, if you guys remember that.

Can't say that I fault him. Sometimes I wonder if these guys are really humans too. Seems that a lot of the riders act like they're enslaved to their corporate sponsors. It's really interesting how they tried to cover for it by saying that it was an injury.

I'd also love to be a fly on the wall in the conversation between the Japanese Kawasaki heads and Hopper's manager. I wonder exactly how much ... had to be kissed.

From what I heard Ashleigh was not at all to blame for what set off that binge.

And even if she had screwed him over, mr misogynistic prck^ calling her a ..... for no reason whatsoever, it is still no excuse to go and get so wasted you can't go into work. Esp. if you get a few million to show up in the first place.

I would have loved it if they had sacked him for gross unprofessionalism.

in other news, I am sure the Brass would have loved to have fired him. Their problem must have been getting a half decent rider without contract obligations to ride the turd for the rest of the season.

he said that asleigh caught hopper in the cheating with another woman. they had a fight, she wanted to go back home, hopper was upset and got drunk. next morning hopkins couldnt ride and he wanted to leave italy to get back with her. kawa had to sent someone to england to convince asleigh to go back to italy so hopkins would race. she didnt wanted to come, so kawa had to explain that if she didnt came back, hopkins wouldnt race and hopkins and she would lose about 4 million
