In the past Melandri has been up at the top often in moto gp through his career and he is still quite young.
Next year he has a massive oppurtunity with ducati. HOWEVER..

This year he has had some horrific crashes, injuries and bad luck.. is someone trying to tell him something?

On a bike with more speed, more power etc will it all end in tears?

There is a reason a bike is fast around a race track,it usually because its stable. So going faster doesnt have to mean you are risking more to do so.Actually it would be the opposite.Slow equals hard to ride, fast equals easier to ride and safer

Yeah... I hope with all the things that Marco get in this season, he will have so much experince to be a better rider next year with Ducati!!!

BRAVO MACIO!!!

I am not 100% certain with Melandri yet but do think that next year will be the year that answers the doubts I have.

I have no doubt that the guy is immensely talented as we have seen at times. But the doubt remains as we also see a number of 'poorer' performances at times that seem hard to explain away.

I see it either as an issue of the equipment or a mental flaw in terms of concentration but do lean towards the equipment side of things.

As for next year I woudl fully expect that he should be a top 5 runner in terms of championship position (and week in week out results). Although I do hope that the pressure of being an Italian riding an Italian bike does not distract him to much from the task at hand.

I would however expect him to win a few races across the year as his talent has already shown he can do that, it is the consistency he needs that will determine the success however.

marco has done didly squat in what 4 years of motogp. and he has too many rossi scars

and it will finally silence the Stoner doubter when casey anialates melandri. but melandri excuse will be he did not have the "magic" tires and bike like stoner though

Its his big chance, hes been waiting on a factory ride for so long. Now he will be able to compete with anyone.

Thats not to say he will be competitive from the beginning, he has to learn new bike, team and how to ride but give him a couple races before hes beating Stoner.

didly squat..........haha

I'm gonna pin this to the homepage if Melandri beats Casey in head to head next, which imo will happen on numerous occasions.

One thing for sure, its gonna be the best battle between teammates

Definately a win or two in the mix for Marco,he`s on an Italian bike which I would presume will have him grinning 24/7 in `08.

Koskal, when I look at your avatar, I can almost hear you say those very words

I think Melandri will go well on a factory Ducati, perhaps very well. As to if he can do it right from the start of the season, and with the consistancy of his team mate, I don't know, but definitely on paper, it all looks good. He has been getting upgrades ahead of Elias although his bike is nowhere near as developed as Hayden's/Pedrosa's so I suppose that makes his season so far a good one, all things considered. At the minute he's ahead of factory riders Hayden, Capirossi and Edwards in the title, on an undeniably sub standard Honda. No mean acievement, is it?

I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes.

I agree. I think this will be the epic battle. Of course, Rossi/Lorentho should be interesting too. But my money is on the Ducati team because both are super talented and both have something to prove.

I like Melandri, but I haven't felt he's been very professional this year. But getting the Ducati ride is really a privilege. Now, he won't have any excuse to make for him not winning the championship. Thanks in part to his talent and his nationality; this is the career opportunity of a lifetime.

Agree, however, he may use the excuse that its just his first year on the Ducati. Just like Stoner said. Oh wait, this was his first year.

people say melandri hasnt done well because he was not on factory bike, but gresini honda though not factory has a budget 10 times to that which stoner had at LCR. however people compare stoners 2006 season to that of the repsol honda. what glasses are u guys looking thru

how do you no there budgets ?? i would be interested in a link that showed that, your word is not enough for me.

It's certainly gonna be an interesting battle. Though I think Casey will beat Marco (by a small margin) at the end of the season. I don't rate Marco THAT high.

It doesn't matter how big their budgets are, it matters what parts they are allowed to buy/have.

And what's all this nonsense about Melandri having done diddly squat?!
<
As a Hayden fan I have no interest in seeing him do well, but you have to give the man credit where credit is due. The only year he actually recieved factory support was at Movistar with Gibby in 2005 when he placed second in the championship. Last year at Fortuna he had a decent bike and he managed 4th (1pt. behind Capirossi).

Not only that, he has more wins than each of the Repsol factory riders and nearly as many as them both combined.

I complain that Hayden got shafted this year because he's had to ride the joke that is the RC212V. A very close second is Melandri, who has been on downgraded Honda equipment every season since scoring second place in 2005.

Melandri has more wins than anyone on a Honda. Hayden has more world championships (real world championships) than anyone on a Honda. Who gets the good stuff? Pedrosa. Where the hell does HRC get off?

I'm glad Melandri is getting a real ride. He was furious in 2006 when Repsol hired Dani instead of him, and he's finally done something about it.

Will he beat Casey? Who knows. But being on a factory team will be like his first visit to the candy store. He deserves it too.

I hope Stoner, Melandri and Hayden finish 1,2,3 next year and Pedrosa is out of the top five. Fat chance, but nobody has achieved so little and demanded so much as Pedrosa.

I have to admit all this Aussie nationalism is a bit old already.
Do you guys have a positive opinion or actually like any rider
other than an Aussie.
An objective opinion every once in a while would be nice.
You're starting to remind me of supporters of a certain American political party.
You should take a lesson from Casey himself.
Read his tribute on his Championship T shirt. He actually listed a diverse set of racers as his inspirations.
Quotes like "Casey's gonna annihilate Melandri" have no basis in fact and either show the authors pensive for emotional outbursts like a elementary schoolchild or their inability to formulate a cohesive arguement why they believe this is so.

IMO Melandri is the 2nd most talented rider in MotoGp.
He is one of the only guys I have seen who have been able to dice with Rossi and come out ahead more than once in the end. This year he has adapted to new tires and inferior machinery very well. I expect that he will probabaly adapt to the new bike as well, although I think the other manufacturers will be up to speed so neither Casey or Marco will be as dominant as Casey this year. There's probabaly 4 or 5 guys that will have the talent and the bikes for the race win each week.

Marco is definitely one of the most talented riders in motogp, I like him and wish him well on the Ducati. BUT, I recall his time at Yamaha and how he struggled badly with the (then) notorious M1 (remember how he destroyed the Spiderman livery?). At the time he was supposedly advised by his then best friend Rossi to switch over to a Honda as it was easier to ride and would suit his style better.

The Ducati is generally regarded as something of a beast that clearly suits Stoners style and not Capirossi's. Will it suit Marco? I hope so but he may just struggle next year like Loris.
