I'm a bit confused here. At the end of last season, I was one of a very small minority who had Lorenzo marked as a challenger this season. Now he appears to be the second coming to folks who were dismissing him last year.

Are we getting a repeat of the Haystack fans running off to Stoner so they can say their guy won the title?

I also have to say that as a Rossi fan, it was frustrating to see him fighting the Stones in the later part of the race while the Michelins kept going for Lorenzo.

Good call Pete. I never would have guessed he would be this good at the start. But I think this night race might be a bogey track, so we'll have to wait until Jerez to see if he stays there.

Any more ominous predictions Pete?

This race may be a one off. The low track temperature, dust and condensation must have made it difficult. I think that whoever was riding on Michelin this year was gonna get a better tyre than last year. Bridgestone caught them cold and Michelin had to up their game.

Be interesting to see what happens at the next race. We might get a better picture of how things really look.

Lorenzo was impressive though. He has got the talent and he is confident in his abilities. We need to see number 46 battling up the front !

When Lorenzo rode his first GP Rossi was already motogp world champion, I love it!!

While not necessarily a Lorenzo fan, I do recognise his talent...

I predicted him to maybe win a couple of races this year & have a good, steady showing a la Max Biaggi in 1998 with his first 500cc season.

And like Max, Jorge will do ok but not seriously threaten for the title throughout the year.

After that though, all bets are off!

Regardless of his obviously huge talent i still don't think its reasonable to expect a rookie to be a serious contender for the title.

I make no secret of this fact ... I can't stand him! That said, he rode fantastic this morning/last night! You have to have some serious talent to get pole for your first race and finish second to the current World Champ!

I still think that rain will be his Achilles Heel. TC or no TC, I expect he will struggle big time in the wet (thus dropping lots of points to the other contenders). The law of averages says we should expect at least 3 wet races this year! That is a lot of points!

lorenzo dovi and jt surprised me, i must admit i would not have put money on any of them, lucky for me im not a gambler

Well the guy's not Psycho Lorenzo for nothing. He does have a crazy gleam in his eye and he's all out to wipe the floor with the rest of them. Whether he actually manages or not is something else. His talent is quite indisputable. And there was a moment in yesterday's race where I found myself thinking, "well, age is really playing a part in this." He was more than a little crazy and he's still got everything to prove so in the end he just might. I don't think he's a more talented rider than Dovi though. I guess only time will tell.

Agreed. But not surprising. Yamaha/bridgestone are doing their best undoubtedly but Lorenzo has the benefit of all the michelin/yamaha data that rossi's years with them has put together. Don't think that after such a public snub they're going to sit back and take it. I bet michelin will try their hardest to show the world what a big mistake Rossi has made dumping them. Lot of people love rossi but no doubt lot of people love to hate him too.

are the italian press still baying for his blood ?

Lorenzo is a class act, I love his gold Lid, gloves and boots.
He will soon win.
I still think it will be all change at Jerez, i.e Rossi 1

You have also been a fairly prominent stoner detractor, giving you a 50% hit rate; still pretty good though

.

I think these were basically michelin conditions, and that the bridgestones will last the distance for rossi at many other tracks, putting him in the mix for numerous wins. I gather he and stoner were both on medium tyres front and rear; the bridgestone hard tyres in day races are probably what he switched for.

Besides it's only one race, but I must admit he did well. I wish him all the best.

Yes BUT??? And that is the question??? U know a motoGP season is not won or determined in one race...yes he was impressive...but Stoner was ‘Dominant” and yes Rossi was a bit undone!!! But surely u won’t tell me that he won’t give IT a GO all season!!! So please it’s the 1st RACE PEOPLE!!! But there are lots of factors on top of all those ‘injuries’ to who eva???...so just let’s see and make our judgments near the end of the season!!!

But I still say that Casey is THE CHAMP 4ME!!! Because...He stands and backs up with an eva relentless gusto and determination and now especially that he is a world champ!!! He backs everything that he stands for and how he does it!!! And that is given it 110% every day all day!!! I say NO MORE!!!

I am still a Hayden fan first and anyone who beats Rossi second. As ive said many times,i used to admire him,but his power plays soured me on him.I havnt had any comments on how i think Lorenzo will do this year because to be honest,i never paid that mich attention to him or his persona. All i knew about him was he won a couple of 2 smoke titles.I will not jump on his band wagon except to hope he beats Rossi weathe it be for a win or 5th place.I got more excited seeing Dovi take 4th from Rossi than Stoner winning the race.

Krusty krusty 'dont get carried away!!!' OK I hate “the lollypop kid also”...but look at what Casey did to him!!! He absolutely, completely and utterly divested him!!! I wouldn’t call JorgeZERO a serious contender especially when Vale gets his act together!!! And then Marco Melandri, Loris Capirossi, Chris Vermeulen etc etc get their act together!!! BUT IM SURE THAT!!!...Vale IS REALLY “MAD” especially after Andrea beat him....hhheee the 2008 season has just started...u cant judge whts going to happen in one gp...can u and if u can then u know more than the lord!!!

Ive always said that stoner is the only guy who can dominate on the Duke, I may take the piss out of him, but I got a lot of respect for the wee ....

If you think Ive taken the piss out of stoneboy I can assure you that me an the other mindless cheerleaders gave Haystack a much harder time a while back!

But its all harmless fun isnt it?
