Lorenzo sprains shoulder

How do these fuckers manage to eat .... right exactly when they need to stay healthy. FFS.

Lorenzo should just sit out the three fly aways and relax by the pool, god knows he is wasting his time trying to win this title. Its not gonna happen.

He did race within 48 hours or so after a shoulder operation. Reports are saying that he left for Japan without any pain.

I've separated my shoulder and have broken both arms, my hand, and a collar bone. the shoulder by far hurt the worst and hurt the longest. Of course I didn't receive the therapy these guys are getting.

Oh yeah, then he crashed again, making his injury worse and relinquished the title.

if iannone can race, all these broken up boners can.
The question is not about taking the field my lovely friend, the question is can he battle for the win. Given most of his wins have required absolutely knifes edge Herculean effort, it would be a minor miracle if he can win while riding with a bum wing. Especially if u consider his style employs fine motor control to keep the M1 looking like its on rails.

Yeah, Stoner, Schwantz, Rainey, Roberts, and Doohan never raced injured and topped the podium. So if Lorenzo did it would be unprecedented. ;)

This. Hurt or not he's going to have at it with Rossi and I hope it's epic. Seeing him finally race in person I have a new appreciation for him. His riding style is very different and I wish I had a tenth of his skill. If anyone can give the old man a run this year it's Lorenzo. :p

when i first started watching Jorge race in 2008 the kid was racing with 2 broken ankles and being lifted on and off the bike

And how did that work out for the title?

Of course riders have competed injured, this is not exactly news. The query being pondered is not whether he can take the field, but how might this injury effect him in the acute context of the title. A nuance seemingly being missed. Unless of course you or someone here knows the seriousness or not of his injury. Lorenzo is down on points with few races left, the 3 fly aways are in quick succession. These are places Rossi has performed well. Its not a good time to get hurt, obviously. In addition, the context is that Marquez is on form (though also carries aninjury) Pedro looks awake, Rossi can ride for podiums, and perhaps healthier than Lorenzo may be advantaged again by Jorge's injury.

Libby and Roomie. I know you're both new here but please stay on topic. This thread is specifically about Jorges shoulder and whether it hinder his ability to ride this weekend.

Jorge is fortunate this happened the week before Motegi. Not that any track is good for a bum shoulder but Motegi is made up of a lot of long straights and not a lot of quick direction change. I wonder which shoulder is injured. That could make a big difference

Neither Rossi nor Lorenzo is really injured -- we are talking a bruised elbow and a hit on the shoulder, both superficial and forgotten as soon as they get on the bike. Marquez is the only one who could actually be in some pain with a broken finger.

The only noteworthy aspect is how silly these accidents were -- for example Lorenzo carefully avoided the Michelin tests but then managed to crash while playingwith minibikes -- please don't call that "training" as some journalists wrote! :)

Did any of them win titles in a season after suffering bad injuries in that same season?

A fair question. But to merely say no - would be simplistic. The reasons why they didn't wasn't down to just the injury itself. Schwantz in his final season - was plagued by many injuries and was in constant pain because sports science was not nearly as advanced as it is today - and the Suzuki was total piece of .... handling-wise. Doohan too was a physical wreck the last time he won a championship. He was insanely tough.

Lorenzo DNF-ed 4 races in 2008 so the points difference was immense. This year there's not such a big gap. I don't think it's unreasonable to think he could pull it off this year. He's a smarter racer and the M1 (in this iteration) has been modified to suit him, so he won't struggle with it the way he did back then. Also, he's generally ridden much better than Rossi this year. He won't have to work as hard to fend him off. He can still take wins but dial it back so that he won't have to win by as large a margin as he has at previous races this year. I'm not implying it'll be a cake walk, but I don't think the odds against him are as great some have implied; especially if spoiler Marquez can keep the shiny side up till the end of the season.
