Change to the 2010 MotoGP Regulations

Saturday, 01 May 2010
The penalty for infringement to the engine durability rules in MotoGP has been modified.

The Grand Prix Commission, composed of Messrs. Carmelo Ezpeleta (CEO of Dorna Sports), Claude Danis (FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA), in the presence of Messrs Vito Ippolito (FIM President), Ignacio Verneda (FIM Sports Director), and M. Paul Butler (Secretary of the meeting), in a meeting held on May 1st in Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), decided to introduce the following amendment to the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations, with an immediate application.

The penalty for infringement to the engine durability rules in MotoGP (6 engines per season) before the race has been amended as follows:

– The rider will start the race from the Pit Lane 10 seconds (instead of 20 seconds) after the start of the race.

Sure, help out Riders that have been binning it!

I know it was a stupid rule, but these idiots directing the show seem more like ..... each time. It never makes you look good after imposing something, as soon as things do not behave accordingly, go quick and change them again. They haven´t even analyzed two whole weekends, if Direction had made this change before Qatar’s race it would not bring doubt at all, or if they had waited till Jerez weekend ends. But no, this rule comes into effect immediately, right in between practice and race, weird!

The whole thing from top to bottom is is silly as hell. Can you imagine losing a World Championship because you ran out of engines. Its ....... bush league. Thats what happens to bubba at the local dirt track, not a world championship.

They've been bickering over the penalty for quite a while. First they were going to dock the riders points, then they decided it should be the manufacturer. The manufacturers forced Dorna to change it to pit lane + 20 seconds. Now they have modified it again.

Not surprising. Like Povol says, the entire thing seems relatively stupid. Benson said the bottom end of the RC211V was capable of going 1/2 season if need be. Please remember they used to run more sessions back in those days.

Why are they racing these lame little engines?
