Le Mans or Catalunya (have to pick one)

Hi everybody,

My in-laws live in Germany and I am scheduling a visit around one of these two races and could use some help deciding which of the two would be best to attend.

I've never been to a MotoGP race so I'm sure this will be a great experience either way... We'll be traveling from Texas (yes I pull for Ben but I'm not one of those obnoxious new Spies fans
<
).

Le Mans: 15th May

Catalunya: 5th June

Some questions:

- Does one cost more than the other overall, after tickets/hotel/etc...?

- Which will have the crazier fans? I can imagine that Catalunya will be pretty crazy because Spain is hosting the reigning champion, but I suspect Le Mans will have more visitors from England & the Netherlands that could make for an interesting atmosphere.

My wife and I are fluent in German & English but don't speak Spanish or French. I'm sure we'll learn some basic phrases before going but which country would be more accomodating to a foreigner?

I'm wondering if the Catalunya race would put us into the high-season of Summer and cost more overall due to the timing... ?

Thanks,

Mark

have you thought about assen and sachsenring?closer and i think both are better tracks

but if you have to pick one,i'd take catalunya

trust me on this, you'll be fine speaking english and german in spain

but don't expect that in france
<
from my experience you at least have to try to speak french or folks will think you're somehow impolite

Thanks for the tips. I've heard those rumors about France and I guess it makes sense that some effort would be expected... (Though a person can't possibly learn the language of every country they visit; otherwise places like France would take a major hit to tourism. Truly a gift horse.)

Unfortunately I have to shedule this trip earlier in the year which limits my options but I think I'll consider a few other options, like Silverstone. If I push the date back a little further I would probably choose Mugello since I've heard that is the best place to see MotoGP. True?

if you're a rossi and/or ducati fan that could very well be your mecca

i think it boils down to what circuit you like.personally i'd choose assen and maybe laguna over any other track but thats just my taste

seriously,consider assen. assen = motogp

Assen was pretty awesome but i thought Jerez was bettter. Jerez, Mugello and Assen have always been the big 3 in europe. But of the two you said, i'd go to Catalunya over LeMans any day

Catalunya mate, go there.

Le Mans is ok as a track but it has a HUGE down-side. It's in France.

Went there a few years ago, could'nt wait to get back on that ferry to England.

Catalunya, by a million miles. Le Mans is a ........, and the accommodation is sold at gouging prices. Catalunya gives you the extra bonus of Barcelona, my personal favorite city in the world. Much easier to sell to those accompanying you too.

been to assen..... enjoyed it very much. have not been to the other 2 but i would go to catalunya before lemans. as kropo sez, i have heard, that lemans is a .... hole.
