Rossi might have held back in 2005 but not last year.
Anyway I'm anticipating a super eventful Laguna. There is so much going on championship wise and side stories.
Laguna will change the complexion of the entire season. Hayden, Pedrosa, Vale, Edwards, Melandri, and Vermy go well at Laguna. Ducati and Bridgestone do poorly at Laguna.
Here are my predictions:
1. Hayden, Rossi, and Pedrosa will comprise the podium unless there is a retirement or mechanical malfunction or someone else goes gangbusters.
2. Stoner will finish just outside the top five or maybe fifth if he goes well.
3. Michelin shod machines will have a big advantage again at Laguna which will cause people to wonder whether or not Michelin has gotten their act together. B-stones will qualify well but won't race particularly well so their should be some passing.
4. Baby Hayden bins it.
THE DRAMA:
Hayden, Rossi, and Pedrosa will be fighting harder than ever for this victory. Rossi and Pedrosa probably both believe they can post double digit points gains on Stoner and each needs to beat the other. Hayden wants the hat trick and he cannot let this season turn into KRJR 2001.
Vermy can actually race in the dry at Laguna and Hopper seems to disappoint at Laguna. Hopper is leaving next year but this is his best shot at a win so far at Laguna, unfortunately history tells us Vermy is the one who actually knows how to pilot the Suzuki at the resurfaced Laguna. Vermy destroyed Hopper in 06 by over 10 seconds.
I'm pretty sure baby Hayden is going to bin it. If something happens to Nicky this could be an imfamous day for the Hayden family.
Checa finished 7th on a Tech 3 Yamaha last year
Now he's on improving Honda equipment with Michelins.............he could be one of those wild card riders who relegates Stoner towards the bottom.
Melandri knows how to race at Laguna, I'm going to be interested to see if he can pilot the Honda in front of Stoner's Ducati.
Positions 4-9 in the world standing are separated by 30 points and is as follows:
4. Hopkins 103
5. Melandri 97
6. Vermeulen 93
7. Edwards 88
8. Capirossi 77
9. Hayden 73
Hayden, Vermeulen, Melandri should all be pushing there way up. Hopkins will be hanging on for dear life b/c 5,6 & 9 can beat him handily at Laguna.
