Lack of press coverage

I know this has probably been discussed before, but I felt compelled to comment given the quite disgraceful lack of press coverage Moto GP receives.

I was reading the Guardian today and thought it was awful that such an amazing race - with the Loris/Rossi dual was given about 10 lines right at the end of the sports supplement. Yet the bore that was the Monza F1 race dominated at least 2 full pages just because of all the silly controversy surrounding Alonso's comments and Schumacher's retirement.

Surely, its about time something is done as its not fair that a sport that requires such a lot of talent and is IMO is a lot more exciting that F1 - with proper races gets such poor treatment by the sporting press.

(Also I am only speaking for England - I don't know if the press are more appreciative of Moto GP in other countries)

Hmm here in Romania is even more ignored by sports newspapers...if you get a 5 line flash news after a race is good. The F1 gets all the attention, plus there are reporters sent at every races lots of news and informations.

However the interest is growing becouse the numer of fans is growing plus we might have a 125cc rider for a full season next year: Robert Muresan.

totally agree with you steph.. the press here give it jack all coverage! its about time they it more column inches and more credit

If it wasn't for the net, us americans wouldn't find out till a month latter in a few "bike only" mag's. If Nickey some how comes out on top, most of USA will know only by the add's ran by Honda, Arai, and maybe Alpinstars.

You can read aplenty about motogp in countries like Italy or Spain. The problem of press coverage in the UK is that there is no local production of domestic stars that don't try to cut corners by competing in supersport or sbk, all paid with dad's money.

Maybe it is also a matter of culture and conditions to have kids ready to work very hard and live on the edge. For the same reason that, bar some exceptions, France and Germany don't produce champion cyclists anymore.

Sports news, blah - bloody moronic tribal football news. If motogp or sbk does get a mention it's never worth reading anyway.

Right on!!

Seriously - it really does bother me - I'm thinking about writing in to the Guardian to see what they say - because I mean the smallest of sections right at the end for one of the greatest races so far in the championship is quite frankly taking the piss.

And it would be nice to see some proper sports journalism for a change - not just a short paragraph basically saying who won in the briefest way possible - which they've obviously just got off reuters or the internet as most papers wont bother sending someone to cover the races.

Clearly there is enough interest in this country otherwise the BBC would not have signed up to show every race live - they would have just left it to Sky or something - especially as quite a few are on primetime on a Sunday afternoon.

hell you want bad press, move to the States... little to none.
lucky just to have it aired on tv!...
example? one of the main channels here aired the U.S. GP on a prime channel for the first time in history....how was it?? it was good, although it was a week later!
<

but NASCAR (crapcar) all day every day!
yeeee freaking ha.

There's no doubt in my mind that MotoGP has the potential to explode, not just in the UK, but in places like the US too. All it needs is for the BBC and Speed to promote it more and give it better coverage.

Hey, they should put Rossi on Jonathan Ross, far more interesting than most of the talentless blondes and junkies they have on there.

They don't even know what MotoGP is here!

Being a journalist myself, gone are the days when a newspaper IS a newspaper. Today, news are rapidly turning into advertisements: what gets published are those that will sell the paper to more people.

So I guess it's up to all the people behind MotoGP to make it more popular.

You are a wise man, somedamnwriter.

What I have experienced so far is that everyone, except some times governments and the like, have to pay for their press releases. From Microsoft down to the corner shop. Although motogp fans have our say, Dorna should put they money where their mouth goes as well.
