So they seem to be doing alright with their times alreay in the low 1.29's at PI and I was pleased to see that Bradley Smith is almost up to his teammate in the timings. I'd like to think that Asparagus will be put where he belongs as the teams support rider by the end of July.

If they sold this with mirrors and lights - I'd be sorely tempted. Yet to see any specs on this. Most curious.

Kesh, I must say that the RC16 looks a proper beast, I've read that there wont l be a road version ... track only unfortunately.

I was very surprised they announced they would sell them to the public at all. The excuse given for not selling the RC8 road bike any more was ... that it was 'to dangerous for the road'? Strange that they don't see issue in selling the more powerful and more road focussed 1290 Super Duke, owners of the RC8 would probably be a little more inclined to take it to track days and such.

Any news on pricing?

No real news that I've seen.

A few months back I did a demo ride on a KTM. Most of their models were available to ride including the 1290 SuperDuke. The RC8 was strangely absent

No real news that I've seen.

Homologation rules in racing like WSBK state that for a bike to be eligible it needs to sell a certain volume of that model and below a certain price point. Currently I think its 500 units at <$40k EUR or something like that.

Is there anything to stop manufacturers exploiting this rule, ie selling enough bikes at a loss to be eligible? Or is the rule and its requirements formulated on estimated costs that manufacturers simply couldn't afford to entertain?

Not sure what the RC16 bike will cost but have heard it will be cheaper than the RCV213-S, and wondered if KTM's agenda is selling them to the public in the numbers and price to meet homologation requirements for WSBK .... seeing that they have ceased production of the RC8 Superbike will the RC16 be its replacement? Or are they not interested/cant afford to race in both WSBK & Gran Prix at the same time, simply selling the RC16 bikes to the public to help with recouping some of the GP racing costs?

I agree with him, I've seen to many 20 somethings smeared all over railings etc because they are lunatics/brain dead morons on 2 wheels.

I know a hell of a lot more then 20 people who ride them every day and are doing quite fine. If people die in a motor vehicle accident from hooning around like fuckwits should they stop selling all fast cars or should they stop selling alcohol because of reckless drink drivers who kill people in accidents.

I'd also have to question his sincerity, he has an issue with the 1190 RC8 being dangerous but has no issue in selling the more powerful 1290 Superduke. A powerful naked bike focused on comfortable road use. KTM's advertising campaign "The Beast Unleashed" showing it drifting around smoking its rear tyre. I think owners of the RC8 with its full fairings and sports bike design would be far more inclined to partake in track days with their bikes compared to those who own the tyre shredding 1290. If KTM are really so concerned about peoples safety over their profit margins then they should stop making motorcycles all together ... they are in the wrong game.

In hindsight I probabaly should have rode the SuperDuke. I was always interested in the original KTM duke which was a supermoto, so I wanted to get a feel for a 690 single. It's a fun around town bike that will relatively keep you out of trouble. I was riding with another guy, who was on the superduke, I kept egging him on to see what it could do, but he was going slower than JPS with out google. I could have stuck around to ride the SD, but the wait was 3 hours. Would definitely ride it next time..... or maybe the 690 enduro. Decisions, decisions.
If you have a local dealer, give them a call to see if the demo bikes are going to come around

By 20 somethings I refer to their ages and yes I know several hundred riders who are good riders, who show consideration to other road users, yet a lot of the very young riders somehow manage to tar a lot of people with the same brush that they aquire.
Yes even I get it, the sort of stupid comments like I should know better at my age than to ride.

I should actually, my local dealer also do KTM's and often have those test ride days where they have a .... ton of different bikes you can put your name down for to try out. I'm guessing the price difference between the 690 and 1290 would be pretty considerable ... I've seen quite a few of the motard style KTM's getting around in the local twisties. Seeing the taller motard's lean right down and kiss the pavement as they carve through corners always looks pretty mental.

I'm keen to ride one of the new GSX-R's when they finally get released but don't think I'd buy one right away based on the price. When the new Honda and Suzuki litre bikes are released this year it will mean all Jap litre bikes will cost at minimum of $22k, big jump up from the current models $16k ride away sticker price.

I dont think anything will stop young people from taking risks and driving/riding around like lunatics. I was no different when I was young and stupid, ten foot tall and bullet proof. I'm not advocating it but just don't think there is much you can do to stop it. Living in QLD Aust where the weather is always hot, literally 90% of the people I see riding around on motorcycles are only wearing some shorts and a t-shirt. 10% of those only flip flops rather than shoes? I don't think it even matters how fast or powerful your bike is if you are dressed like that.

If people want to ride like lunatics or not dress appropriately it doesn't really bother me ... at the end of the day they are the ones assuming the risk and more often then not the ones who take the brunt of the damage. What burns my piss, is when these types have an accident and the blame gets placed on the motorcycle, and the bike is the culprit ... not the dildo riding it. The media love to bash up motorcycles and label them as suicide machines that governments should ban. Insurance companies also love to have another excuse to increase premiums. Its always a minority of idiots that spoil things for the rest of us.

I imagine at some point the nanny states of the world will ban motorbikes, just because of those peoples antics. Hopefully I'll be long gone when it happens.
