<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Marco Melandri knew when he signed the contract with Hayate that Kawasaki would only be doing limited development on the bike in 2009. Just how limited that development will be was revealed today by Matthew Birt on the Motorcycle News website. According to Birt, Kawasaki will cease development of the 2009 ZX-RR at the end of March, shortly after the IRTA test concludes at Jerez. From then on, the factory will provide a maintenance service only, with no more upgrades.

This will leave Melandri to contest the season basically on the same bike that he starts the season on.

As if this wasn't predictable? The whole Hayate ........ was just put there to gain one extra bike. Kawasaki had pulled out - why would they develop the bike? Melandri to be last every race of the season. I wonder what odds I'd get for that.

So basically same as last year then.
I actually think the Kawa bike is not as bad as most people think. I will actually be very interested to see what Marco can do on it.
Will be a few red faces if he starts beating rev limited satelite Honda bikes.

What's the point of this bike? Why embarrass the championship with a contender like this? Oh... wait.... MotoGP isn't racing anymore anyway. So all is good. Continue on.

Call me when there is a lead change after the first lap in a race.

I have been a long time reader of this site, I just have to post something now and get this off my
chest. Why is everybody so negative when it comes to MotoGP now days? Sure the racing is not
like Leguna Seca 2008 all the time, but hey, as a true fan of motogp and long time follower, I can
say I simply enjoy hearing the sounds of those beasts and honoring the riders taming them. This is prototype racing, the pinnacle of motorcycle technology and development, this is the primary goal, and for true fans, watching the practices, qualifications and races is part of the love of motogp, and if from time to time we get a battle for the ages, well then thats just icing on the cake! As for WSBK, yes I follow this as well, and sure there are more battles, but In my opinion, Motogp will always take priority, even if the races are not as "exciting", since not everything in life is about excitement, but about the goals and ambitious drive to achieve a better racing machine, whatever the consequences. Take care,

-Mike.

I could virtually guarantee virtually everyone on this site wants motoGP to be the pinnacle. It's the ....... clowns running the sport who are ruining it. We know what the four stroke era is capable of - the 990's I think everyone agrees were brilliant. Dorna in collusion with honda changed the rules and have ...... it. Pretty simple really - 990's, less electronics, bigger grids and we'll all be happy.

MotoGP is still the pinnacle, but it has placed itself with the rules that has allowed World Superbike to come close and be a serious rival to the series.

I knew WSBK has really taken a large chunk of of MotoGP when Max Biaggi made the move to the series.

Look at just a few years ago when the 990's came into the series. You have guys running pretty close together although Vale is usually running away with it most of the time still others won races and had decent enough chances if they got the setups right for that day.

Bigot

The whole notion of displacement restrictions is backward looking and expensive. Top speed and weight restrictions would allow for a more profitable free flowing and competitive environment.

The single tire rule and rim specs are good, but should be open to bidding every 3 years.

Also, MotoGP needs more races that it promotes with local governments. 1 or 2 more in the US, bring in Brazil, add a Monaco style street course, Hong Kong, St Petersberg or Moscow, etc.

They also need to promote racing and trackdays through dealers an manufacturers. Like you get a free MotoGP ticket when you do a trackday or buy a bike.

More varied sponsorship, like start/finish like logos etc would be good too.

The US is a big market but I can't imagine more than two rounds in this country. A street course!?!?! You can't be serious, can you?

Back to the topic at hand, good on you Dorna. Give the money to a factory who doesn't have any desire to improve their offer or be there in the first place. That makes sense. All the while you have guys like KR, Ilmor and the MotoCysz guys busting their ... and spending money to try and get to grand prix. But those guys don't have that big factory appeal and certainly no money to persuade Dorna with, it wouldn't make sense.
