JT TECH 3 WITH MICHELIN'S

I hope KR can come up with the frame solution for Laguna. I guess we'll know shortly. They have to nail it because half the season is over and the results are very poor this season. Last time they had a major frame problem Honda bailed them out since it was over their heads. Obviously, they have to solve this one themselves.

It's funny having to wait until the afternoon for practice results. Normally when I wake up the first session is over and the second one is in progress. At least Indy is in my time zone.

Tom, I think you must be the only person on the planet who thinks that Schwantzy was overrated. I know it didn't really warrant a response but I had too! The way he rode that beast of a suzuki was unbelievable.

Me an Tom dont agree very often, but as fast as Schwantz was, he was outclassed by Rainey and Doohan, because they could put a full season together.

Great character, great rider, but not the rider Rainey or Doohan was.

I dont wear the whole "what he achieved on the Suzuki" thing, nobody could win a title on the Yam after Rainey, coz if you were reading the bike press at the time, it handled pretty crap. Which is why, as I have said before, they were using the RoC chassis for part of the 1993 season. But not when Wayne had his accident before anyone says that.

Theres a lot of rose tinted glasses on here where Schwantz is concerned. I know it pisses off folks when I say that, but, I was following GP at the time, and when Ive challenged folks about whether they were, I watch the tumbleweed and listen to the crickets. And thats in Scotland. We have neither!

Plenty other riders, Barros and Beattie for starters could get results on the Suzuki, so I just don't wear the whole "crap Suzuki" thing.

The guy was bloody good, no doubt, but, as Nicky proved, sometimes racing with your head makes you the better rider than raw ability.

I await the hate mail.....

No hate mail from me Pete. No doubt I think had he used his head a bit more and been more conservative his numbers may be different. And I think he should have done more of that. But I think raw talent wise he had more of it than Rainey and Doohan. If only by a hair.

Schwants overrated? Are you kidding me? My face is turning red, white, and blue from that statement!

Schwants and Rainey gave us the most exciting races entering the 1990s!
One title, but loads of talent.

The record book may say he is overrated, but alot of peoples hearts do not.

now I ask you this, may put off some people, is Capirossi overrated?

Captain...I think Schwants was and did the best with what he had...sure he was hot headed. Kamikaze at times but he did do a great job for Suzuki...I wouldn’t say he even came close to Mr. Rainey’s footpegs!!!...as I think Rainey would have become a legend (lal Rossi & the greats) and would have really put a dent into Mick’s career!!!...Wayne Rainey was a much more tactical, faster, rider than Mick Doohan or for those times “he was the greatest” bar none, at times virtually “UnbeatablE!!!”), Doohan, Lawson & Gardner (but Gardner is questionable???)

Schwantsie was a very entertaining go for rider....he crashed lots but at the end of the day he was a RebeL!!!...and that is what we LOVED HIM FOR!!!
As far as Capi---X is concerned my opinions and views are now!!!...lol... Capi---X...PLEASE RETIRE...while things are good, respectable!!!

Cheers

I have to disagree with this, I think doohan was significantly better than Rainey.

Ask Daryl Beattie what that dog of a suzuki did to his toes! The suzuki was an absolute beast, I'm not saying Schwantz was anywhere near the best of his generation but you gotta give it to him, winning a world championship on that machine and damn he was great to watch!

I think when you consider the chassis issues that Honda and Yamaha both had back then the Suzuki doesn't seem like such a raw deal.

Agreed. For raw talent, he was something else, but as a racer, he was hotheaded and no disrespect guys, erratic.

I think we can agree to say that as a rider, he was amazing, but it takes more than speed and balls to be a racer.

Well, Mick nearly lost a leg on the Honda, and the unimaginable happened to Wayne on the Yamaha, those things were all animals.
