Ducati dominate top speed charts.

All these www.crash.net news are kind of hot, hot, hot... or at least interesting and debatable!

And I just saw the article from motogp.com where malandri wants new parts. Pedrosa were the only one mingeling with the Ducatis for top speed. Maybe it's not all size advantage.

On the other hand the differences were quite small.about 10km/h from 1 to 15

during the live Jerez feed on gp.com...one of the commentators gave an explanation on why the 800s are putting in faster lap times and matching or close top speeds from the 990s..

he said:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>on the 990s we never new what top speed they could achieve..because even on the longest front straights...the 990s would still spin up the rear, even at 200mph..so the rider had to stay off the gas a bit...the 800s are bettering the lap times not only cause of later braking and faster corner speed... top speeds are close because they get out of the corner faster, and they are wide open on the straights, unlike the 990s..

i just thought that was a great assessment...

While I do agree for the exits the sentence above is very hard to believe.
They do have somting that is called something like radation, a "constant" higher speed on the rear wheel than actual ground speed but all bikes have that in higher speed, and is not considered spinning.
I've never seen smoke comming from the tires on the straights. Besides, why would they want more power to stay competetive when less would be better? Add to that the traction controll. Sorry, I don't by that one.

I'm not surprised, look at the size of the fairing on that thing, and with two tiny riders on the works bikes.

Wheels can spin without producing smoke..you don't always see smoke from the tires when they power out of the turns either..

“Quiet small” or ‘quite a lot’. I mean, we are talking about plain ‘Top Speed’. In 990cc the greatest was 340+ km/hr and no one was able to top 350 Ks, just under 10 Km/hr was quiet a lot!

But it was top speeds for all Ducati’s, factory, satellites and even test riders in general!

Also may be not seeing smoke with wind hitting at 260+ km/hr…

Speed has never been Ducati's problem.Look at the last 2 years and you will find that Ducati had the fastest trap speed on just about every circuit. From what i can gather on various sites the 800 is down 12-15 mph on the faster tracks but is making it up and more with later braking and superior corner speed.Remember, there are a lot more corners than straits.

Maybe the bike can go faster if they put a bigger & heavier guy on it..eh?

Ooops, I thought I was on the Pedrosa weight advantage thread...

I think you missed the entire explanation. And frankly, I'm too lazy to draw pictures for you.
