I've been seeing the images, and frankly its put things in perspective. Its a terrible tragedy. The magnitude of the disaster is overwhelming. Understandably, this means the Japanese GP may be postponed if not cancelled. LINK

(please, refrain from saying something stupid if its cancelled. Lives have been lost in this awful disaster.)

it Should cancelled end of bcs of what happened yesterday

hold it later in the year if possible and put it as near to the end of the season as possible / weather etc

and motogp should run some collection/aid programme over the season

when they go there and ship/fly there stuff in.

deliver a .... load of aid at the same time they'll still need it

Motegi

Mito pics,Mito is where motogp teams are based and stay when the motegi race comes round

It's pretty sobering. We had south Queensland/ Brisbane going under water, NZ had Christchurch hit with an earthquake and now Japan hit worse than both together.

Bike racing really isn't that important in the scheme of things.

I'm wondering if they might postpone the opening round next week. Being that Honda and Yamaha are both based out of japan, it had to have had some effect. This is very sad, The japanese are among the smartest, honorable and most respectable people in the world.

Anyone know which prefecture Honda's racing division is in? The main factory where motorcycle is built is in Kumamoto prefecture

and safely in-land. Kumamoto has it's own airport as well - but I have no idea if the racing division is close by.

Hamamatsu where Yamaha and Suzuki are both located - has not been affected by the quake.

As news broke around the World of Japan's biggest earthquake since records began,

Honda Racing Corporation is very relieved to announce that all employees have escaped unharmed

looks like anything HRC As a whole is ok

BTW Seen a tweet that says Nori #41 and others are ok

It's a little sad how it's almost a year since Shoya won the inaugural Moto 2 race and now this! But im Happy to see Nori is ok. I'm assuming Hiroshi and Takahashi must be in Qatar already, they must be worried sick about their family and friends!

The Japanese Bmx team is in town training, so it hit me a little harder being able to relate the quake to people I know. My heart goes out to all effected by this.

The show must go on !! This will give Hiroshi Aoyama extra motivation to win his home grand prix...... and that he will. Go Japan !!!!!

Just like with 9/11, when I first saw the imagery I thought I was watching a disaster film. As Woody says we've had some serious issues in our neck of the woods recently and it seems the tragedy keeps on coming. A sobering thought to consider such an industrial powerhouse now in turmoil and a people bereaved. Our best wishes are with them all.

What an excellent piece Motomatters. U speak for the community of PS as well in saying our thoughts are with the great people of Japan.

Rumours of big damage to the Honda museum at Motegi. Not confirmed but will let you know ASAP - twitter

An absolute tragedy.

Should countries on fault lines have nuclear reactors? Perhaps they could lease power staions in China( or buy power from China) that transfer power via submarine cables. Is that possible? Its got to be better than the current situation?

Should any countries have large nuclear reactors for power generation (as against small reactors involved in nuclear medicine) ?

It would certainly seem to be a good idea not to put them right on the coast of islands with no continental shelf.

I suspect they will get out of this with not much damage to people's health except for the unfortunate workers caught up in the explosions or exposed to very high levels of radiation in the emergency controlling of the reactors which is mainly what happened even with chernobyl, where the main health consequence for the more broad population was some increase in thyroid cancer, mostly non-fatal. Still it will be a close run thing, reliant also on japanese engineering which is pretty good, and enormously expensive which building the reactors in the first place is in any case.

A local expert on the radio who seemed to be well credentialled said that hydro power was the most dangerous form of power generation due to the possibility of catastrophe with the dams, followed by coal-fired power plants because of the dangers inherent in mining coal, something like the safety of air travel vs cars I guess in the latter case.

ya know, I feel for the country, hell its automotive companies are just about shut down, the country is basically in free fall and the government is dumping cash in to save it, all while this crisis plays out. I work at GM and I kinda feel like Lorenzo last year, when Rossi borke his leg. He knew he would take the championship, but he didnt want to do it that way. While our company is building its momentum, our compeition is bleeding and thats not how you win. I really do feel for all those people.

Go Japan!
