Is Stoner here to stay?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(BarryMachine @ Sep 25 2007, 06:15 AM) <div class='quotemain'>
Yep it was all luck ....
<
<

No but it helped!! ........
<
<

I'm trying hard to figure out the logic there .... but I'm slow
<

Edit: I get it now .... they turn up at races with 4 completely assembled bikes in a big box marked "LUCKY DIP" and Casey and Loris have to close their eyes and put their hand in and pull out a bike!!??
<
Oh well yeah he must have got lucky cos them lucky dip are hard to win.
<

Now wait a minute .... I thought folk were saying he was a "whinger" ....
<
<

Maybe just maybe , when a guy is going good it incudes riding through problems??? But gee you'd never hear Rossi, Hayden, Doohan, Rainey etc. say that would you???
<
<

Even if Hayden only ever has that 1 Championship to his name .... its still an amazing feat! Why downplay that?? I certainly have not come very close to such a feat in my lifetime ...... but I'm a champion at watching it well on TV!!!
<

I'm sure he had some luck ..... maybe it was in the getting of his G/F/Wife judging on likeness pictures, aimed at belittling the fellow, I've seen folk post on threads here .... one can only assume that the posters are better looking than CS and that Mrs Stoner would have preferred them to Casey!!!
<
..... so was that luck too?? ....
<

LUCK!!

i thing eagle makes some good points, the word lucky doesn't seem to sit right with you, so replace it with fortunate. and damn right his misses would prefer me, have you seen how good looking i am, slung like a donkey too.

ps, dont use so many emotions, i had to remove some so i could replie. cheers.

Alright, I have to be the one to say it. Stoner got lucky. I do not mean that he got lucky winning every race, I mean that he got lucky to end up with the perfect formula for engine, tire, and team. Dont get me wrong, you do not win a GP championship without being a great rider. Stoner is indeed a great rider. I however do not think that he is any better than Rossi, Melandri, Hayden. Stoner is the only rider in the paddock to not have any problems with either his chasis, engine, or tires. Ducati made this championship easier for Stoner to win. Stoner still had to win it, but Ducati did their part as well. If Stoner were on any other bike, even Capirossi's bike, the championship would have been much different.

And Hayden is still racing, so you can not say he was a 1 and out rider like Roberts Jr. just yet.

i agree totally about stoner, the commentators have said often enough everything has to be prefect for the bike to perfom well, rider, bike and tyres. This year stoner was probably on the only bike asside for the suzuki which was performly perfectly.

So does this mean Hayden's championship last year was all that more fantastic because he had problems with the bike he had to overcome, on top of being torpedoed by his teammate?

Alright, I have to be the one to say it. Stoner got lucky.

As roger said, replace "lucky" with "fortunate" and I think your post will be a little more accepted.

Eagle, I understand what you are trying to say, but I'm not sure even then I agree because Capirrossi was, in fact, on virtually the same machine.

Here is what I think. Team Ducati/Stoner got it right. They deserved the championship. Period. Its one entity. It cannot be separated. One cannot exist without the other. We can't say, Stoner was so good that he would have won on any other competitive bike. And we can't say somebody else with as much talent as Stoner would have won on his bike. They won together and as a team effort. Period. End of story.

In the scheme of thing yes .... bet Hayden woulda been so much more happy had he not have been torpedoed
<
And I dare say those extra points would have silenced just a few more doubters.

The funny thing is Haydens torpedo seems to be getting his serve this year eg. the green french torpedo

Yup, Casey is here to stay!

Its a shame that talk of naff Yamaha's and Dodgy Michelins have over-shadowed exactly what Casey and Ducati have done.

Whether you like it or not, Casey is the 2007 MotoGP world Champion, and nobody can take that away from him, he has ridden brilliantly this year, and hasn't made any mistakes. The team have produced a brilliant bike, that for the most part, has been reliable, and Casey has ridden through various problems, including a gear box selecting neutral, and a problem with the steering damper on his wet bike set up in Motegi.

No one complains about Michelin when they win, and no one had anything bad to say about Valentino kicking everyone's butt on the RC211V when every other bike was crap out there. Rossi and his team got beat this year by a better PERFORMING team and rider. Stoner performed better than anyone else this year. Credit should be given where it is due. Casey Stoner, Ducati, & Bridgestone are the deserving and rightful 2007 World Champion.

if rossi wernt on the resol honda he would of won the 4 titles he did. and if doohan didnt retire, rossi prob would of won none

you really think Doohan had a chance against Rossi with the 4 strokers? LOL
Only one rider did so well on all bikes all categories: ROSSI

Yeah I think Stoner will be a challenger for years to come IF he has a competitive bike. Which I don't think he'll have often if he stays in Ducati.

I do think Stoner is here to stay. I think the kid has risen the bar and he is much deserved. He was the best rider this year.

In regards to whats said about Stoner:

Quite talented - You don't just become world champ and dominate so many races if you suck. He has shown talent in the past, but so have so many other riders (Pedrosa, Melandri, Hayden, etc). I think the thing that bothers most people about Stoner is he seemed to have came from nowhere and just suddenly dominated (hence the claims that it was the machinery not the rider). Something certainly clicked with him this year, as he seemed flawless. Although he did seem very machine-like, which certainly will win the race, he just doesn't have the entertainer in him that everyone loves in Rossi (Rossi entertains both on track and off).

Bike/tires - Many will argue he was on the best setup, but more importantly he melded well with his "best setup". Hats off to Ducati's performance this year.

Luck - Always a factor no matter what rider you are. Rossi's career has been a "lucky" one, he's never suffered a huge injury enough to drop him from the season nor out for many races. Ask Gary McCoy about luck, that poor guy seemed to have the worst. Stoner had a good run this year (no one constantly taking him out, bike dying on him, etc), and luck is as much a factor for him as anyone else.

As good as Rossi - This depends on what perspective you are looking at. One season? He sure did win, so you can say yes to that. Career? No one will be "as good as Rossi" until they match his career accomplishments (ie - 5 championships in a row, number of wins, etc).

Next season - Its going to be a cracker! But I'm still looking forward to these last few races.

Wow, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Rog, hand the troll spray over. This troll is a big one, might need 3, 4 people to take it down.

Rossi= Greatness. Just for all of this Rossi bashing, I have decided that I actually like the guy. Hate the hair, but Rossi kicks ....

Stoner is not here to stay. He is moving to F1, with Ferrari. Duh, didn't you know that. His whole deal with Ducati was to get him in a Ferrari by 2009. It didn't matter if he won a championshp or not.

Fair enough what you said about Guintoli but the situation at Mugello was hardly the same. It was completely dry and Stoners bike was working fine he was just outclassed by an experienced rider that knows that track well. Stoner was not happy.

De Puniet even got a podium at Motegi thats how bad that race was.... i nearly laughed at his celebration good for him but i was like wtf this guy thinks hes good.
