Is Spies going to continue to disappoint?

I am not sure that an increase in engine capacity of 200cc is going to suddenly leapfrog Spies past the aliens.

PS What happened to your Vale/Casey egg on face avatar? It suited you hehe

retired it

not only in cc but in girth bro. big boy bikes, not souped up 600s

all the bigger riders are having the most troubles..

itll come..the 1000s are his

Next year will be an interesting one for sure. Last year Spies had to learn the Tech 3 Yamaha, this year he had to learn the factory bike, next year everyone is going to have to learn and adjust to a new bike. A level playing field, well, at least more so.

not sure the 1000s will help Spies anymore than anyone else, given the complete rules and specs for 2012....but best of luck to him.....one word of warning though...as long as he sits on team with Jorge, Rossi or Stoner then Spies will always be seen as second rider....the best thing he could do for himself is to get a factory bike and parts on a totally separate team similar to 'Side Show Bob' deal with honda....

It's still to early to say that Spies has been a disappointment this year. In his pre-season testing he's show capable of putting the bike near the top of the timesheets, at times surpassing his teammate. I think he just needs to relax, calm himself down, and just ride like how he's always been....... that's what's got him to MotoGP. He's being too extra cautious on the bike, that's his mistake I think because it tends to screw up your rhythm. Lorenzo didn't have a problem getting up to speed on that M1 as I recall, yes he crashed alot, but was still lightning quick.

There are plenty of reasons to think the 1000s will make a big difference and plenty of reasons to think they will have little or no impact. They might have a significant positive impact b/c the engines are longer stroke which should improve fuel efficiency and reduce the importance of lean burn technology. Imo, it is also possible that additional torque might make the bikes accelerate slightly slower (wheelie-control cuts power), but we will have to see the consequences of throwing more weight over the front. Pedrosa puts weight over the front end of his bike, but he runs out of petrol every race. If the 1000s are limited by wheelie-control, they might have more fuel to go the distance. Thermodynamics is the obvious reason the bikes may not be any different. 21L is 21L and 10mm stroke may not do much at all.

I don't know whether Spies will continue to disappoint, but he has had an uncharacteristic number of errors during the beginning of 2011. If he had been a bit easier on the tires, he'd be sitting third in the championship right now, and he would have duplicated his best finish from last season. Yamaha 1-2. That's enough to convince your employer that you are a suitable replacement for Rossi, and a possible championship contender should something happen to Jorge.

Ben was 2 laps away from being 3rd in points, but thats the way it goes. He says he had actually slowed down quite a bit after getting past and dropping Pedro, and has no idea what happened. This particular rain tire didnt seem to hold up very well for all the riders. Was it drying in the later stages and just melted?

Its laughable at best to think Spies should be compared to other rookies who have come from GP, even in his second year.

Anyway, the thread title assumes he's been a disappointment, and I'll add, suggests his talent is in question. He has not disappointed much so far this year. In his first race, sure he made a few mistakes trying to pass Rossi, but that is because he passes without risking taking himself or the other rider out. Something that should be applauded! he eventually got past Rossi. He came behind two factory Hondas to the race winner and runner up, if the Hondas are as good as we think, what the hell is disappointing about that result?

And regarding Jerez. Spies was headed for a podium. Sure he crashed out of it, but that is wet weather racing. ...., even the leader crashed out. Not to mention the talented GOAT suffering a crash too.

Lets not judge Spies too harshly just yet, shall we...

It's only 2 races into his second year and people are already disappointed? Maybe my expectations of him weren't sky high to begin when compared to other people here.

We have had only 2 races so far, it's too soon to judge a whole season based on these 2 rounds. I think Spies will show his talent and will shine again. Yes he lost a great opportunity in Jerez, but the season is just started and he is on a new bike. Give him at least some more time to answer your question.

He didn't finish twice in his first 3 races last year. By race 5 he was on the podium. So it's a bit early to write him of.

Do want him to score points though cause hes in my dreamteam

Hey Curve, I think Spies is looking for a date. You should apply.

Ok, so let's change subject: is Ben engaged?

“No! He is single. He has many friends, maybe he's evaluating…”

Can we help him? She laughs, we're on a funny path. Requirements?

“He likes smiling cheerful people. Above all, independent - not the kind of sticky ones depending on you; he likes sportswomen, with hobbies and interests”.

Hair?

“That's not important”.

Big breasts? Nice buttocks?

“No, that doesn't matter, it's the character: must be a nice independent person”.

Age? The gorgeous paddock-mom thinks a while.

“You know? Maybe even few years older than him…”

The boy has talent..give him a couple more races under his belt and he will be a regular podium visitor. Does anyone know if Schwantz is still mentoring him?

he'll be up there sooner or later...cant deny the dood is good.

Plus, you cant blame him for crashing in jerez, so basically we're only judging his performance from 1 race

hes had a unfortunate start to the season hes not a great starter somthing which he acknowledges himself . i think he showed rossi a little to much respect while prepareding to pass him in qatar.

injerez he crashed like so many others BUT my complaint is after he crashed in jerez he was the only rider i saw that did not try to get on his bike and rejoin the race .

however i think there is a lot more to come from this guy but he really does need to sort out his starts and first few laps

Al

So far Lorenzo made him look mediocre, Ben needs to raise his game. Still i think he is the only other rider who has the talent to mix it with the top 4 guys.

You have to remember that Spies has to adapt to a bike that was set up more towards Rossi and set up more to suit Lorenzo better (no team preference).

You have to give Ben time so that, he can adjust his riding style to suit the Yamaha.

Lorenzo is the team leader this year because he is more experienced than Ben in terms of Moto GP. Also Yamaha are recovering from the loss of Rossi, Jeremy Burgess and various other technical staff.

Give Ben some time and I have no doubt he will be mixing up at the front.

After all you do not become AMA and WSBK champion if you are a bad rider.

No your not a bad rider if your a ex AMA/WSBK champ but lets look at the past champs who stepped up the plate and where are they now :

2010 Max - forget it GOAT killed he before

2009 Spies - what will he do once bike is to his liking/set up - yet to be released - watch this space the followers say

2008 Bayliss - nothing more to say - brilliant rider on No2 machinery in his GP days - pity too old could have gone further otherwise

2007 Toseland - now you see him now you don't.

2006 Bayliss

2005 Corser -

2004 Toseland

2003 Hodgson - came and went

2002 Edwards - still there credit to he but always on No2 status nothing more nothing less

So yer Spies has some history to change
