Poll from Eurosport:

Who will win the title?

13969 votes since Wed 30 Jan to Present:

Answer, Percentage, Number of votes

Casey Stoner 21% 2891 votes
Valentino Rossi 61% 8504 votes
Daniel Pedrosa 4% 605 votes
Marco Melandri 1% 150 votes
Jorge Lorenzo 3% 392 votes
Nicky Hayden 5% 708 votes
Chris Vermeulen 0% 62 votes
James Toseland 5% 657 votes

It seems lots of people voted with their heart. How might you see the percentages? (Assuming they were odds.)

My answer: I think Rossi and Stoner's percentages should be flipped. Toesland ahead of Pedrosa is interesting, but as much as I dislike Peders, I might give him at least a 10%. Lorenzo might have a better than 3%, so I'd give him a 10% too. The painful truth is I think Hayden is gonna struggle all year, outch.

Assuming these were odds (I know they are not) but how would you rank the top five at the moment? I have a feeling this will continue to change throughout the year for positions 3, 4, & 5. (I didn't make the list, I just took it from Eurosport's list, so feel free to add anybody you think should be ranked in the top five.)

Stoner
Rossi
Jorge
Pedrosa
Hayden/Toesland

they do seem far fetched all things considered. saying that i voted rossi purely because thats what fans do
<
but was also surprised to see rossi so far ahead in that poll.

But Rog. you have to remember that Rossi has a very millitant and annoyingly large amount of ardent fans.

And I'm not saying that the actual shear mass of the number of fans is annoying, its just that you actual individual fans are annoying

Its a still a pretty wacko poll ..... was it for 08?

Doesn't reflect contemporary betting "odds" very much.

I thinks its more just an example of the "millitancy" of the Yellow army ...... and it can be seen with posts, in Rossi based forums, calling folk to vote in such polls.

Well Rossi may not be having much luck on the track of late, but at least his fans love him

Well I would not expect you to react any other way
<

How often do you find it whereby someone finds you annoying but you don't feel simillar towards them
<

Every poll you see where Rossi is involved he usually takes a commanding lead in his favour. I agree, that the polls don't make sense but when do polls with fans voting ever make sense?
Bookies are usually a better indication of where the odds should be.
BTW, does anyone from Spain go to the Europsport website? Jorge's and Dani's votes seem ridiculously low.

Well you make an interesting point. I guess the Brits see Rossi as one of their own, eh.

At one time the demographic of members here were very reflective of the above poll; where have they all gone?

Seems like all his fairweather friends have flown the coop. This is good as it gets down to the real fans, who are actually interested in the sport as a whole, not just in the cult of Rossi.
Saying that, if he wins another title I'm sure they'll all come running back. At least we have peace for the present.
<

The results aren't really all that surprising, in polls like this people vote with their heart, not their heads.
So it's obvious Rossi will come out top, even if a lot of fairweather fans have jumped ship, he's still probably got more fans than all the others put together.

in the real world the results are surprising. in the world of the fanboy the results just show how much rossi deserves the title simply because we all love him. it could be the only thing rossi wins for a while. the title should've been ' who do you want to win the title? ' what isn't surprising is the notably silent yellow army on here, just goes to show that fans don't win championships. where have they gone indeed? on topic though, it is too early to say who can win the title, the cool night race not being the typical gp, but the form book is leaning towards stoner ain't it so the poll is ......... follow the yellow brick road.

Polls like that are silly. We have the same cult following over here for Dale Earnhardt Jr.No matter what the poll is,he wins 3 to 1.They could run a poll on a Nascar sight that asked who the most influential person in the world is, if Jr is one of the choices,he will get 3 times the votes as the Pope. The funny part is,he aint never won .....Rossi at least has won numerous GP titles to gain his status for the mindless masses.
