If you could bring back a track...

imo i would dump indy before it even starts ( little too close to walls ) and also china

bring back Turkey and bring in Spa

Agreed. But a good track in the place. Spa is very dangerous too, but I would like to bring back Suzuka. It is scary as hell, but why stop racing there because a great up and coming rider lost his life there. That, IMO, is an insult to Daijiro Kato's career and life.

suzuka was an awsome track in it's day, i say in it's day because it is no longer fit to hold a modern gp round, things have moved on since its day. bikes are faster and make there power in a much different way.
kato dies in a place on the circuit that was unknown for the earlier 2 strokes to crash, once they realized this they had to start looking at modern tracks like china sepang ect
i dont believe its an insult to kato buy dropping it, i think it was the duty of dorna for the safety of the riders to drop it once safety concerns had been raised.
personally i much prefer the older tracks to the new sanitized track. but things move on.

Wow yeah, Bathurst looks amazing, other than the.... lack of corners? From that map, it looks like a glorified oval!

Hi IR,

I can understand what you're saying when you just look at a circuit map like the one provided.

For those that don't know, the Mt Panorama racing circuit at Bathurst in Australia is actually one of the most famous racing circuits in the world & has been holding an annual touring car race there since the 60's. Firstly a 500km race & then as it is today, a 1000km race. It's just a normal road for the rest of the year with a 60km/h speed limit!

For quite a few years there was also the annual bike race held during the easter holidays (think of the Daytona bike week in the US) but a number of altercations between bike gangs & the police led to it being cancelled permanently.
<

I really don't know the actual height of the top of the mountain & television does a great job of flattening it but I can assure anyone that the gradient both up & down are SERIOUSLY steep! I've done it on a CBR600 about 10 years ago & a section called"the dipper" going down scared the crap out of me! And that was at the legal speed limit!
<

The sections across the top are series of blazingly quick curves which ends at "skyline" where it's a blind entry corner (similar to Laguna's corkscrew) except that it's faster again!
<

Hard to really describe it overall so it's probably better to go onto youTube & look up "Bathurst race" or something like that & see if there are any vids.

Quite a number of international drivers have attneded over the years from many different forms of racing & to a man have said that it's simultaneously one of the most scary & fun tracks that they've ever raced at.

I'd bring back Farleigh Castle, Foxhills, or the fantastic Hawkstone Park!

Can you believe that this weekend's British Motocross Grand Prix will be held on a man made circuit on the infield at Donington! How crap is that!!!!!!

I'm just wondering, have all the tracks suggested had a motorycle GP before? There are a few I don't recognize.

Like muzzy57 i remember the bathurst easter bike races , not that I ever went to them. I am guessing you did.

As muzzy said, all manner of international racing drivers have raved about the circuit, including the likes of jacky ickx who drove in the annual race when it was for touring cars.

I don't like V8 supercars and have not really kept up with recent safety improvements but I imagine as you implied it would still be possible to actually fall off the mountain, as bill brown almost did.

Sorry, I didn't see most of the replies to this post so above is redundant.

Australia is not noted for its mountains; mt panorama is more of a hill in european or american terms at 862 metres and the track is over 6km long and hence difficult to appreciate from the diagram.

Ok let me get my Patriotism out:

I want Oulton Park back in place of... China.

There were some epic races there.

In reality.

Spa, tis safer now.

Istanbul...modern great.

CSCVAW was joking (I think).

The mt panorama circuit is great though; the annual car race they have there was originally held at phillip island.

Michael..It was in jest...but i don’t think for a start that motoGP would allow there riders to race on such a fast track and also there are a few questionable parts of the circuit where i’m sure if any rider would dump it they would lose their lives!!!...so i think it would be a safety thing that would stop motoGP going there...as there have been lots of riders in the past that have lost their lives at Mt. Panorama...but it’s a great track and a track that has seen lots of great battles be it production cars ( I won’t call v8 supercars prodie cars!!!..As the Bathurst 500 when it first started in the early 60’s was originally for “Production Cars”!!!)...and i can go back to as far back as 1965 as I’ve been to Bathurst at least 25 times from the 47 years...great track and you have to have balls to drive and especially ride a fast motorcycle there!!!

I knew you were joking; unfortunately even most of the brits don't really understand that fine aussie artform, the sledge.

Seeing this thread seems pretty well dormant I will continue off-topic. I also despise V8 supercars, for the poor quality of the driving among other things, with the major overtaking manoeuvre seeming to be the shunt off the track mid-corner. Having watched every minute of the bathurst race religiously since my early teens, I now struggle to raise any interest.

The series production days were great, and we can thank evan green and his slow-news day scare story in the sunday paper for their demise. I was at warwick farm (another great former circuit the loss of which I much lament) at the motor racing the day the story broke.

I think the australian cricket team are now only notable for the quantity of their sledging, not its quality; I guess 20 years of dominance (except 2005)
breeds arrogance. I think they are mostly just plain rude now.

I have enjoyed some of the counter-sledges, like the Sri Lankan cricket captain, ranatunga after being sledged by (australian fast bowler) glenn mcgrath telling him he would have expected him to get more spin at the pace he was bowling.
