Iannone to Suzuki

I can tell you the detail -- he wanted to be assured equal status in all things (which is not just being given the same bike) with whoever was going to be his teammate. Ducati would not guarantee that. As it turned out, Ducati's new top rider got de facto #1 status and preferred Dovi as teammate. After Lorenzo signed, Iannone's fate at Ducati was sealed.

So Argentina doesn't affect anything anyway?

And here I was thinking that riders never got a say in who their team mate was or could be ......... woe is me, the things I learn :)

Lorenzo is expected to bring a championship year one! Ducati wants a championship yesterday.

Once Lorenzo signed Dovi was the clear choice. Dovi is the new Pedrosa... sit down, shut up, don't get in of the way of Lorenzo. Iannone is not capable of that.

Clarification; this negotiation occurred at the time of Philip Island? Or post Lorenzo signing? As I understood it, he was offered a new contract at the time they were in Australia during which time Lorenzo wasn't seriously in the picture.
I think Lorenzo has been in the picture since they canceled his victory celebration last year, maybe even before. There had been reports of them talking before last season finished

Well... If you have incompatible contracts it's more like a business decision isn't it?

There was no sarcasm smiley for me to use cool.

For years we have read from media and forums alike that certain riders do not get any input into their team mates and yet in this thread, one who is generally pretty close is saying that it is so.

I am devastated that all I have been told is now proved false

And yep, to me if you have a clear #1 in the team, than to allow that person input is natural as they need to be able to work together if they are to be a team. Alternately, have two bikes run separately but even then I suspect that the factory may play favourites and thus generate a quasi pecking order.

I don't doubt that it was being discussed. But doubtless it was a long neogotition with lots of chances of it falling through. That's what makes it interesting to me; what parameters Ducati used to decide which of the Italians would stay. Personally - I think they made the right decision. Dovi will make a much better teammate.

No mate, I'm saying if Ian zero put a clause in his contract claiming equal status and JL made a claim in his saying: serisly? I'm clear numerous uno... 'K? Then it's just a biddness decision.

I wonder if Ducati will regret keeping Dovi. Ianone is so fast and so inconsistent...

There is your answer. Today was the perfect example. Has the fastest bike on the grid and he ..... his pants falling back to 11th on the start. Its mental, he just cant put it all together and close the deal

Fully aware that it is a business decision but just recently we have seen some posters saying that JL chose Dovi or at least had significant input when those posters in years past 'may' have taken the opposite view and claimed that it does not happen when the comments were directed that another rider had input in the choice of their team mate.
