I had a dream...

This is not based on any current information, this is me doing some work at home (Pearl Jam blaring)and generally goofing off and daydreaming. My dream is a battle of good and evil... (mwuhahaha)

Honda doesn’t want to build another two stroke. So the 250’s and 125cc bikes are getting the axe, but 250’s first and they are being replaced by a 600cc standard engine (from multiple manufacturers) bikes with a 17,000 rev limit (correct me if I’m wrong). This should keep costs down and so on.

So what’s to say that Aprilia or Ducati, even BMW or KTM cannot build a V4 600 that goes like a scalded cat, work out the optimum stoke and bore for 17000rpm and build a ....... bike that beats all.

Hell, why not do it cooperatively? WP suspension from KTM, desmo engine from Ducati, Aprilia frame and so on. It would be a case of “be careful for what you wish for - it may just come true” for the Japanese in particular Honda.

I’m really keen to see how the Aprilia V4 WSBK goes, I am also thinking that the attempt to muscle European manufacturers out of gp racing (mainly Aprilia) may cause an unexpected reaction from the manufacturers most affected. Sort of like Nash’s theorem (for the economics lovers out there) on two wheels.

There is not currently a 4 cylinder 600cc supersport bike from Europe (coincidence?)

Opinions?

I think the engine is required to be an I-4 in addition to the 600cc capacity.

All of the Japanese manufacturers use them and the I-4 config offers better weight distribution for larger riders. I'm of the opinion that only emaciated children with 0 bike control race in the 250 class. Ezy knows it is largely unpopular in regions where average height is above 5'4". The Japanese are happy to oblige as long as Ezy throws out KTM and Aprilia.

There isn't going to be any TC in the 600 class either. Australians and Americans are going to massacre the little mincy European children if Ezy doesn't promote big market riders by putting them on the best machines.

I'm looking forward to the 600s, wondering how close to the 800s they'll be in performance.

200cc less and 2000 to 3000rpm less.

A lot lighter than a WSS bike.

They will be similiar to a 250 which was the design brief I guess.

I'm convinced that a few of these have been built and tested so far to ensure a similiar performance to the 250's. Somebody has been doing the product research.

"Market Research"???? You so sure Dorna understands their market? I think the 600s'll be great, but Dorna doesn't have a great record in "Market Research".

Yeah, Moriwaki already built one based upon a 600cc CBR engine. I'm sure it's been ridden around plenty.

If you google Moriwaki 600 it should produce some pics and info.

I would wish they would use 2 cyl 600cc,then a few european factories would be interrested i'm sure other than triumph. If they are.
On the other hand, everything isn't decided yet and there could be a "one engine for all" and factories build their own chassis around it to keep the costs down.In that case there could be tons of factories from all over the world participating. From big ones including BMW to Bimota,or even guys like KR.
